Assuming Ledley fails to get back to full fitness, I think the majority have agreed that we need stability at the back so rotating Ledley and A.N.Other with Woody for a whole season is not an option. So if this is the case, are there any centre backs around who are realistically within our reach, and most importantly can make our defence tick the way Ledley does. Kaboul has potential but needs another season or two before he's ready. I think it is important to get someone in who has a fair amout of pace. Woody's not the quickest and I think this is partly the reason why Woody and Ledders work so well together. The best defensive partnerships have one strong no-nonsence type defender, and one quick one. The first name I'll throw into the hat is Vincent Kompany, looks a good player and can also play defensive midfield.

P.S. Sorry Ledders, get well soon

Pointless thread.

Ledley WILL be back.

Thanks for that.

Is there a reason you spell the 7th most popular name in the UK with a Z? I've always found it more than satisfactory spelt the traditional way.

someone else has probably already taken the username: 'JamesTheYido' so he used his initiative and replaced the 's' with a 'z' not too much difference in it. :duh:

Being a James myself i find the name boring simple and more impotantly common. Any way to glamorise (chav it up rude style) the name is most appreciated, in conclusion Jamez is westside gansta blud and i shall be using it from this day forward.

Yours chavly

I'd rather have Ledley back that have any other CB in the world, let that be clear. I just thought it would be interesting to see peoples opinions on a replacement if the unthinkable were to happen. I remember a thread a few weeks back asking whether Ledders should retire, or if we should drop him for the good of the team, which sparked a lengthy discussion. What was agreed by most is that if Ledders cant play every week then we need to get someone in who can form a solid partnership with Woody.

I only rate Lescott's forehead, the rest is shit!

He's been superb for Everton at CB and Full back. A right footed CB who plays LB better than most. very good in the air but very quick, very very strong and tidy on the deck. And wieghed in with 9 goals.

you, in one fowl swoop have been added to "tRiKS' black list of SC posters who know little" and will treat all further posts from you with a pinch of "leave it Dave, he's a bit dim" salt.

in a thread about Ledleys replacement you throw lescott into the mix but have the cheek to say I know nothing

whislt lescott may be a fairly good player he is not a replacement for King!!

to be honest i am not too concerned about the defence. Yes the goals have been shipped this term but for me you can pin the blame firmly on the midfield for that.

Lets face it, king, woodgate, dawson and kaboul are more than adequate. They all have ability, and King and Woodgate are complete, and Dawson and Kaboul are, well:whistle:, heading that way. For me anyway 4 centre backs of that quality is well and good.

Lets concentrate on the midfield - assuming we keep Berba, and its a big assumption, i am convinced our money should be spent on a midfield overhaul.

Sell Jenas and Zokora, get about 16 mill for the both of them (give or take). Use this and about 25 million from the TV money and land ourselves a couple of worldclass midfielders, including a left winger (hopefully capel) and a beat the wife midfielder and a creative attcking midfielder. Stick with Lennon/Malbranque on the right, hudd to be used too, centrally of course and -- hey presto, bobs ur uncle or whatever - we win the premiership, qualify for the Cl and win the wafer next season. Happy dayz.
