to be honest i am not too concerned about the defense. Yes the goals have been shipped this term but for me you can pin the blame firmly on the midfield for that.

Lets face it, king, woodgate, dawson and kaboul are more than adequate. They all have ability, and King and Woodgate are complete, and Dawson and Kaboul are heading that way.

Lets concentrate on the midfield assuming we keep Berba, and its a big assumption, i am convinced our money should be spend on a midfield over haul. Sell Jenas and Zokora, get about 16 mill for the both of them. Use this and about 25 million from the TV money and land ourselves a couple of worldclass midfielders, including a left winger (hopefully capel) and a beat the wife midfielder and a creative attcking midfielder. Stick with Lennon/Malbranque on the right, hudd to be used too and -- hey presto bobs ur uncle - we win the premiership, qualify for the Cl and win the wafer next season. Happy dayz.

I agree, the midfield is the priority. A complete overhaul would do us the world of good. However should Ledley get injured for a long period again, are Daws and Kaboul good enough yet? Also on a side note, would you rather see Daws and Woody or Kaboul and Woody starting? Personally I'd go for Kaboul, I think Woody and Daws are too similar.

everyone goes on about Daws playing better alongside Woody, but has anyone else noticed that Woody plays a lot worse alongside Daws??... Coincidence??...lol.... I'd rather have Kaboul and Woody, i think Kaboul has massive potential, and could readily be the next best thing to Ledders.... Or get Sergio Ramos, but there's more chance of me becoming Ledders replacement than Ramos!

Assuming Ledley fails to get back to full fitness, I think the majority have agreed that we need stability at the back so rotating Ledley and A.N.Other with Woody for a whole season is not an option. So if this is the case, are there any centre backs around who are realistically within our reach, and most importantly can make our defence tick the way Ledley does. Kaboul has potential but needs another season or two before he's ready. I think it is important to get someone in who has a fair amout of pace. Woody's not the quickest and I think this is partly the reason why Woody and Ledders work so well together. The best defensive partnerships have one strong no-nonsence type defender, and one quick one. The first name I'll throw into the hat is Vincent Kompany, looks a good player and can also play defensive midfield.

P.S. Sorry Ledders, get well soon

Kompany hasn't played at CB in at least a season, and he seems fairly comfortable as a DM--judging by performances. (Its worth noting that I have not seen a lot of German football this season, and only a couple of matches with Hamburg--so others may have more well-informed observations :)) But there are plenty of other candidates--a while ago it was brought to my attention that Barca had pulled out of their negotiations with Garay. He's young and full of potential but he is defo 1st squad as is. If we go for someone like him, I think it would be time for Daws to move on and for Kaboul to get a chance to develop under Woody/Garay (or whoever)/Leds...

in a thread about Ledleys replacement you throw lescott into the mix but have the cheek to say I know nothing

whislt lescott may be a fairly good player he is not a replacement for King!!

Don't worm out of it with semantics, i never said Lescott was as good as King nor did the thread starter indicate that peoples choices would be as good as King. Only that King might not be back so what is about that you'd bring in to best plug the gap.

No one is a replacment for King.... maybe a time machine and go get McGraugh but no one currently is as good as a fit King.
So someone who is young a very good would be the path i'd choose and Lescott is the best of that crop.

thats a good shout actually, always rated him (by this i mean i always buy him when playing football manager )

I bring this to your attention aswell. 2 things wrong in context to your misrepresentation of my reasons to mention Lescott and his relative ablitly to ledley.

1) football manager admition. (no further comment is nessesary)
2) Vincent Kompany - Who isn't a "replacement" for Ledley by your definition either.

In short: Contradiction

you're a tiny bit dim

I don't particularly rate Lescott either for what is worth...

Erm, surely the natural sucessor to Ledley is Troy... ah, you're referring to next season. I'm sure Kaboul will end up coming good alongside Woodgate.

Thats fair enough Mat. you neither laughed at anyone for mentioning him nor did you make up a subtext for other peoples reasons for mentioning him

I would be intersested to know what about him you don't rate?

I guess if I'd just seen him on MOTD I would be quite impressed, he seems powerful, direct, scores goals etc.

Whenever I've watched him closely though his positioning has been pretty meh and he's had the turning circle of a tanker. But the worst part is his touch, which is attrocious. He looks so scared recieving the ball. He's in the same ball park as Wheater, they should be cumbersome, play long ball to, strikers rather than defenders. In my opinion.

Ah fuck off mate, the football manager comment was toungue in cheak and a joke, i know fuck all about Kompany other than football manager, so for me to say he would be a good replacement would be pathetic!

I dont rate Lescott, I am very sorry, but I dont rate him its as simple as that. IF King doesnt make a comeback like we all think he will, I would like to see a much better replacement than Lescott. This is a forum for discussing opinions yea? Well there my opinion.

Aye, quote the quote for us please.

Anyway, as others have said, Kaboul will get there in time. To be fair, I think he's a quality player, but this is what happens when players get thrown in at the deep end and expected to perform for a side that was pushing the top 4. Unfortunatley, we've only got Martin Jol to blame for this.

Why is Lescott even being mentioned? He's a very incomplete defender. Great in and around the oppositions box, but clumsy as fuck in his own. Overrated is the word.

He certainly hasn't had a poor first touch in the games i've seen and comfortable enough without being Sammer on the ball.
He has a very good turn of pace... he kept up with lennon in the first game this seaon at WHL!! perhaps Lennon was lame that day.

Long balls are a bit of an Everton theme so i supose we'll not know for sure if his passing would be any more accurate in a team that plays a shorter game.

But it's your opinion. and that opionon includes Kaboul as being the future despite him having played markedly worse than Lescott this season??!?

I agree, Younes didn't get a fair shake; but I think that we will prove good in the end--that much should be evident by the potential he has displayed when on the pitch (despite the fuck-ups; but he's young, he has an excuse).

In the realm of the hypothetical: two, three or four years from now Garay and Kaboul sounds good to me.
