what has Ledley ever done though?

he's hardly played when we've actually been good.

Don't get me wrong, he's my favourite player, but I get the feeling he's a 'legend' because he's a bit of a brilliantly talented enigma.

In my opinion, he could've been a legend, but for the bad luck. Keane has given more to the team than King over the past 3 years.

Oh dear.

Ledley could have gone to any club four or five years ago.

We were bad, really bad and he stuck with us.

He was a diamond in a bucket of shit.

He is easily the best defender I have seen at Spurs (including mabbutt) and if not for his poor injury record he may be regarded as one of the clubs top players.

He has pace, is confident with the ball at his feet, he is good in the air and strong in the tackle.

He is quicker than Terry, better in the air and stronger in the challenge than rio and more assured and a better passer than Carragher or Terry.

Name one of our current "embarressment of riches" CBS that has all the acumen of Ledley.

Then come back and tell me Keane is better.

Good luck.

I never said Keane is better, infact I did say Ledley is my favourite player for all the reasons you just posted. It really does help if you keep up.

Continuity has prevented Ledley from being a real legend in my eyes.

But he hasn't has he? he's excelled int he past 3 seasons and played a massive part in our two 5th place finishes.

He has hit a bad run of form in the past 2 months, big deal, it's happened to the whole Arsenal team.

It's really not a competition, but i don't see how you can ignore 106 goals in 249 appearences

I am not denying any of that but does good form in three seasons a legend make? What about the other three previous?

His goal tally is good, not marvellous.

....................3 seasons is a long time take it from me, I mean Ginola was only in spurs for 3 seasons-ish Gazza, Liniker etc. are other examples

His goal tally was decent in his previous seasons, but lets not forget your point about King. You say he was a gem in a bucket of shit, same can be said for Keane imo, he was a talented striker, but we weren't good enough to supply him.

He's now got the supply, he's matured as a player and he's scoring goals. So yea 106 goals in 249 games is the making of a legend in my eyes.

I'm just seeing you going against the grain for the hell of it. I can't see how any spurs fan can be unhappy with the above record in this day and age in the hardest league in the world.

Not at all, I just cant see how a player with so many flaws in his game could ever be considered a legend.

It is not as though he has immense talent to mask those flaws.

I dont care what others think. You will all catch up eventually anyway.

Every player has faults, but we often forget them over time based on the good they do. Keane's job as a striker is to score goals, and he's doing it very well, he may make the odd error or bad decision, but even Berbatov gets robbed of the ball very often in games.

I probably wouldn't say Keane is a legend, just yet, but if he snapped his leg and never played again as of the weekend, I think he'd go down as a goalscoring great.

As I said in an earlier post, 'legends' travel, worldwide. In my experience only Glenn Hoddle would be regarded in the legend category if we consider his time at the club, impact on the way we played and just as importantly, the mental impression he made on both supporters abroad and other teams supporters in Britain. Steve Perryman would be more of a local legend for our fans even though he was the leader of our club across a long period of time. Pat Jennings had similar impact to Glenn but has the additional dimension of also being virtually an Arsenal legend as well Eek

Glenn Hoddle, without a doubt. He was a genius on the field, possibly England's best midfielder ever. I think many people are putting Berbatov in the legend bracket because he is so good but it has more to do with him having Spurs blood flowing through him than anything else. If we want to use footballing ability as a yardstick, then the greatest player ever to wear the shirt would be Diego Maradona. I think it was in a testimonial for Ardiles as I still have that picture of him somewhere between my other "old stuff".

Because Berbs is a player in the great spurs tradition going back to Greaves Hoddle Ginola - and he's played a crucial role in winning us our first trophy for 9 years - that's why he is a legend for me

But at the same time is looking to go to another club, his agent, brother and so on have talked about him leaving, i just dont see how this makes him a true spurs legend,

And please explain to me what the Great Spurs tradition is??

So did Woodgate but i dont consider him a Spurs Legend.

For nearly 50 years i have watched true Spurs Legends play for this great club, and yes i am talking about players like Mackay Blanchflower etc etc, this players were never the most skillful players but they gave everything for this club, from there conduct of the pitch and also on it, Berbatov has had 2 good seasons granted, but that does not and never will make him a Spurs Legend.

And beforeanyone starts Klinsmann was a football legend, throughout his career, as was Linekar, Ginola etc etc all good players but still not in the Class of Legend status as, the above, Perryman, Greaves, England, Mullery, Chivers, Mabbut players that gave there everything for the club.

I might just be getting old i just dont know and im sure most people on here are under 25 but i just cant see who berbatov is considred in the same list.:bang:

Hi Juande :) As I've said before I've seen all the great Spurs players live going right back to Jones White Mackay etc - so am clearly over 25 :) (wish I wasn't)

the great tradition I refer to is players of the highest skill, artists like Greaves Ginola Hodd who didn't rely on sweat but sheer genius - and Berbs is of that lineage - and hence to me for the reasons I've already given Berbs is a Spurs legend (for me anyway, and doubtless some others too)
