We where probably not even interested.

I'm sure we probably were, but just as with Halilovic and Jedvaj, too late to the game.

It seems we're amping up our efforts to find these potential foreign superstars at age 16 and 17, but too often they're going into the academy and we hear nothing. There's a big middle ground between those guys and being too late to the game and players such as the aforementioned. I hope this gets addressed soon.

If he signs for Chelsea, i'd expect him to be loaned out and never even play for them.

They're ruining young talent.

Disgraceful, should be some sort of law to prevent clubs signing players under 22 and don't make a certain amount of appearances for the club within 2/3 years or smtg.

NK Rijeka "ITK's" claim that Kramaric's father (and a representative, a former Aston Villa flop) were in London on Friday, met with Chelsea officials and turned down their offer.

Obviously they didn't like the idea of him going out on loan for the next few years before being sold to a mid table team in Germany.

I think at 23, he wants a move to a team that will provide him regular football, and I'm sure that our former Croats can speak highly of the club if he asked them...keep believing!!

Agreed. I think it was a bit different for the case of a player like Salah, as he was still playing in Egypt during Arab Spring and was very fortunate to even be in the right place at the right time to get an offer at Basel. He also is under no threat to lose his position for his national team. Kramaric though understandably will want regular club minutes at his age, and is probably aware he can get them at other big clubs.

Good on him for turning down the big money and big lights for more opportunities to play football. Hope we have a chance at such a young fella.

He doesn't have a manager and his father has been taking care of his career. He is using some help now that he has to negotiate with these bigger European clubs. I don't think there is any question they want to find him the right fit. We'll see how it all plays out, but I think they will take his potential status at a new club greatly into consideration. At least that's how he's been nurturing his career up until now. He's been brave enough to stand up to Dinamo's Zdravko Mamic, for example, which not many have been able/willing to do.

Very similar to Eriksen's case. His father was a manager in Denmark and so was his prime source of guidance in choosing clubs, and Eriksen turned down offers from Man City and Dortmund so he could find a better fit more conducive to playtime and development. I like it.

Turned down Chelsea? I want him even more now.

Here's how our proposal would likely go:

Levy: Andrej, we're really interested in your services. Now, it might be tough to break in here, though. There are no guarantees. Our starting strikers so far this season have scored an intimidating 4 goals in 12 matches, between all three of them. If you're up to challenge that goal scoring record, we could likely find a spot for you in the starting XI.

Let's hope his dad is a poor judge, you would have to be mental to join us at the moment.

While the club may have a concerning air about it, the opportunity to play at a club as big as ours, with a history of developing and moving on players to even bigger clubs, has to be appealing for a father looking to get his son a move that will benefit his career in the short and long term. We still make a lot of sense for a player like Kramaric. Far more sense than a club like Chelsea.

Agreed. In truth, I think it's actually a rather optimal situation to be looking at. Between being in London, proven success with Croatians right out of Croatia, being a big club, offering desirable wages, spotlight from Europe's very biggest, and a very shaky senior striker situation, you have to imagine it's actually a situation more than worth considering for this kid.

Yeah, I agree completely. For a player like Kramaric who probably sees himself as capable on a much larger stage and sooner rather than later given he is already 23, we can be a huge opportunity for him. I would be shocked if we didn't sell one of Adebayor or Soldado if the opportunity presented itself. So, with one of those players gone we become even more attractive.

What's the rumored transfer fee for Kramaric, by the way?

I saw on Transfermarkt they have his initial contract ending in the summer but there is a club option for 2 more years.

Dinpomp declared earlier in this thread that it's believed there in Croatia that his fee has reached closer to ten million GBP at this point rather than the four mentioned in the article linking us. His profile has apparently risen substantially given his performances at club level, and of course his performances with the national team in place of Mandzukic.

It's still not a bad fee in my mind. It's a huge step up, but if you trust your scouting (do we actually have scouts yet?) then he's worth it given his age and his goal scoring record, even if it is a weak league.
