I did like him, but he's started acting like a massive wanker since joining them.

It is the Liverpool effect, soon as someone joins they get time warped back to the 80s and starting talking about Liverpool being the biggest club in England and an institution that should be winning the league every season. When in reality they sit in position where they have a fairly weak squad which needs major work due to a number of factors, and would have to be playing out of their skin to get near the CL positions rather than ashoo-ing for a spot as pundits would have you believe.

Beetroot Head did that at United - it helped to instill a sense of value in their team and, ultimately, a sense of inferiority in teams facing them - jus' sayin' (y)

Comparisons between the Pre-Premiership era and Premiership era hold no meaning.

Every Liverpool managers has done this for years, but since Benitez was let off his leash, they have been in steady decline. Telling that squad they are better than or should be finishing above the like of Utd/City/Chelsea isn't really helpful it is in fact detrimental imo. Their managers would be best off going in and trying to temper expectations while they put together a squad.

:stop: Don't care...fact (RAFA FACT) is Fergie did do that. I never said it would be just as efficacious for <INSERT LIVERPOOL MANAGER> I just pointed out that Fergie did it :p

I thought Gerrard was really average yesterday. Probably just a one off, but you do wonder if the injuries and age are starting to catch up with him. Joe Allen looks like a good buy though - he's a very tidy player.

One injury to Suarez though and they could be in big trouble as you can't see many others chipping in with goals.

Gerrard is done. Completely finished. he should be dropped but Rodgers aint got the balls as he wants to stay on Carras and Gerrards good side if you get me drift. I can't wait until those two aren't around anymore. They don't offer anything on the pitch and just cause problems off it too. Why do you think Liverpool even considered getting Owen in?

Joe Allen is amazing which is why I feel like a twat for going mad at us signing him for that amount of money. £15m will soon look a bargain and the best bit is he is only 22 so he's only going to get better. Best CM we've had since Alonso I reckon. He's been our best player in every game so far, followed by Sterling.

Just pissed off with Liverpool and the Board/owners, the seasons over already with what FSG and their 'committee' did, and their disatrous end to the window. The lack of strikers/Attacking Mids on deadline day is a disgrace, but thats not even the best bit, this 'committee' almost didn't sanction the £15m release clause fee for Joe Allen which is why it took so long, and why we insulted Swansea by putting £10m low ball offers in.

Just want the season over already now. Yet again we were totally let down by non-football people off the pitch who know nothing about the game, and value money over everything else. People with these priorites shouldn't get involved with footy, unless they also have a genuine desire to be the very best, and are willing to use their resources fully to achieve this.

The state footy is in generally is starting to make me fall out of love with the game bit by bit. With everything being about money to the point where coming fucking FOURTH in the league is seen as more important and preferable than winning the most famous and traditional cup competition in the world in the FA Cup.

I blame UEFA and the cash cow they've turned the CL into, and the sugar daddys who give shit, history-less clubs like Chelsea an unfair advantage over proper football clubs like our two clubs, by buying success and in turn inflating transfer fees for everyone else who don't have £100 notes falling out their arses. Its akin to cheating for me.

I really hope to God the Prem bring in its own version of FFP that clubs like you, us and Utd are really pushing for in the midst of the UEFA one obviously being a damp squib. Then artificial clubs like Chelsea and to a lesser extent City would go back to being what they should be and back down the table.

ENIC seem to see the future for Spurs and its recipe for improving you as a club, and getting to the top, in the same light as FSG. Wage structures, a transfer philosophy focused on younger players with sell-on value, bigger stadium, increase commercial revenue etc.

However, whilst the likes of City, Chelsea, PSG etc etc are allowed to just run around spending money how they see fit this approach and plan for success of our two clubs, and Arsenal too if they don't start spending all that money they have saved up, will never work.

If Arsenal started going more down the City,Utd, Chelsea route of big spending, which they have the ability to do but not the principle, so they don't do it, much to the annoyance of their fans, I don't think Liverpool or Spurs or Newcastle for that matter, would ever be in the top 4 again unless rules are changed to stop huge spending sprees.

Unless our clubs are taken over by another sugar daddy, I think CL is out of the question, which in turn means we can't get access to the revenue that comes from CL participation which would help bridge the gap to the richest clubs.

So far, lucky for us, it doesn't appear Arsenal are changing tack any time soon which means for the next few seasons there is one of the four places to fight for, but I can't see LFC being involved in that fight for a good while. I don't see anyone but Arsenal getting that 4th place to be brutally honest.

Completely unrelated but damn, I wish we'd of bought Cazorla. He's like a much better Gerrard and would of fitted in for us brilliantly and offered goals and assists from midfield. Gutted.

Sorry for that. Rant over...needed to get it out my system! And your not allowed to be negative on LFC forums.

Gerrard is past his best, everyone can see that, far too many mistakes from him now and he will pick up an injury soon no doubt. Joe pass it back to goalkeeper 91% Allen isn't a world beater either, he is a solid signing and nothing more. As for Sahin, he's practically had a season doing nothing for Madrid, this will be a big season for him to see if he can perform to the levels that attracted Real Madrid to him.

As for up top, other than Suarez they look incredibly average. Oh and defence, why do people bang on about them being amazing? Arsenal have passed through them two or three times this half and City did exactly the same, I think they are the most overrated defence in the league.

We will finish above Liverpool this season I am confident of that. Arsenal though is another matter, one injury to Podolski and I can't see where the goals will come from? Giroud looks incredibly average and they've offloaded four strikers in the summer? I guess they see Walcott as the third choice striker? Or Gervinho?

Our defense is the only good part of our team. I can't be arsed finding all the stats again but when you look at them Liverpool came out as statistically the fourth best defense in the league. Most of the time, especially most of last season, Agger and Skrtel are as solid as a rock. Defense is good, thats never been our problem, scoring goals however....

Not going to laugh at Liverpool just yet but would say that Gerrard continues to be the most over rated footballer in the world.

He was a lynchpin about 5 years ago when they won the Champs League but his overall influence for club and country has been declining for ages (in fact I struggle to name a good England game he's since the 5-1 Germany game). He is the epitome of us over rating our own English players. The media and pundits still absolutely dribble over him.

I like to laugh at Liverpool.

Firstly they lost out on Dempsey to us because they couldn't find the extra 2mil quid that we out bid them by.

Now they lost out on Del Piero to an Australian club! Now that's funny.

Bit harsh on Gerrard although before the Euros i might have agreed with you in terms of for England. Liverpool have spiralled downwards in the last few years anyway i'd say so maybe there's a pattern. If he'd been playing somewhere like United for the last few years I don't think you'd have that view. All ifs of course, but lets face it since old Rafa started selling their best players they've gone downwards perenially even if they did have that little run for the title.

Gerrard was the best all round midfielder in the world in his prime. Absolutely fantastic player at his peak.

I dunno, Reina seems to consistently have about 5 or 6 fucks up in him a season now and Skrtel and Agger seem a bit exposed at times. I guess Enrique has dipped recently and had a few injuries so once he has a few games under his belt you'll have your back five from last season all playing again but so far this season you look weak at the back.
