:(Nothing to laugh about atm................

Really hoping for some good news soon though, else we'll be having a real fight to get 4th.
We’ve been in, and will continue to be in, a real fight for 4 for a couple of months now.

Losing Coutinho will hurt them, though, no doubt about it.

Mane' was a brilliant price £38 Million or so. Deal done and sealed early. Negotiations started in March/April which is what i would like us to do.

Like when we signed Modric/Vertonghen etc. Vertonghen broke in like March April but done somewhere in Hune/ July.. Memory fading on that one. But thats the gist of it. Get business done early !!!
I'm sure everyone at the club would like to get all our deals done early but unfortunately that's just not how it works. The selling club inevitably want to wait and try and drum up other interest to start a bidding war and drive up the price, plus like with any negotiation, the selling club will start out by quoting a very high price for the player. We're not in a position where we can afford to just pay whatever they ask for the player. City were able to get business done early because they could just say "fuck it, let's pay up". We don't have that luxury. That's why deals like the Modric/Verts one where it's all agreed early don't happen very often

You're wasting your breath mate, to some they just see that as Levy being stingy.

Yes im aware of the complex transfer process. Very true about city and paying up.. Here i was specifically commending the bin dippers on some astute business in the last 2-3 windows perhaps.... They want that CL position and strengthening their squad.

# they not standing still in contentment. They know whats at stake.

I think you're missing the point though mate. It's not that we could do business early but choose not to, we can't do business early for the reasons I mentioned in my other post, except for a couple of instances where all the stars align e.g. With the Modric deal. If it was possible for us to get the player we wanted for the price that we can pay at the start of the window then obviously we would do that.

The Times are reporting that Coutinho believes he's played his last game for the club and that a £133m offer is incoming. The Express are reporting something similar.

I just cannot understand this move now. Sure - agree a transfer now for the summer, but it doesn't make sense for any party to do it in January.

He is cup-tied for the Champions League and Barca effectively have La Liga wrapped up already so why the urgency to pay over the odds to get the move done now?

It's unlikely that Liverpool will be able to find a replacement that can have a similar kind of impact in January and everyone will know they've got a load of cash in the bank so they're likely to get burned - they surely can't expect to finish the season on a high with Oxlade-Chamberlain or Lallana taking his role in the side? Even if they do get someone like Lemar in who I don't think is a like for like swap, it's unlikely they'd get the ground running as quickly as Salah did, especially without a pre-season.

And for Coutinho - why the rush? Unless Barca have made him an ultimatum which I'd be surprised at for the reasons above, why go now? He's in top form in a settled system, he'll want to take that form into the World Cup this summer. He also currently has nothing to show for his five years in England so I'd have thought he'd want to have one last crack at winning something before he goes, especially with Liverpool getting a favourable draw in the Champions League and the knowledge that he can probably leave with the blessing of their fans if he waits until the summer?

There must be something important that's not public knowledge yet. It just doesn't make sense for this to happen now and not the summer otherwise.

Great news for us if it's all true. I'd immediately back us as favourites for 4th place if this happens.

This was probably all agreed in the summer when he didn't get his move.

Cant agree more. We ( club and Supporters) need to understand the market has changed... Tv deal money etc ensured this. We got it right with Sanchez and i want more of this type of signing.

I absolutely detest our net spending culture which so many of our supporters use as a point of pride. There is no trophy for net spending. Im not suggesting we spend stupid money too. Its what Rose was referring to in his Google comment... Pay peanuts and you get monkey's..
Eric Dier - 5 million
Wanyama - 12 million (peanuts really)
Dele Alli - 5 million
Toby Alderweireld - 12 million
Rafael Van Der Vaart - 8 million

It's not about how much you pay

David Bentley - 16 million (huge fee at the time)
Roberto Soldado - 25 million
Darren Bent - 16 million
Paulinho - 27 million

Romelu Lukaku 75 million
Harry Kane - free

The Sevilla squad that won two UEFA Cups in a row cost a total of 1 million Euros apparently and that included the likes of Danny Alves and Jesus Navas. I opt for development over silly spending all year long.
We've tried the spectacular approach and failed miserably. Get them in yung, get them developed and make them into stars who care.
If you buy them cheaper and they flop, it's no biggie. But if you get an Henderson or a Carroll for astronomical money, it looks a tad different.

I’m not suggesting we don’t, just that, with the example you posted, there’s no evidence to suggest it happened. To date, every deal with Ajax has been amicable, no angst, reports of wrongdoing or anything to suggest we’ve been underhanded. The repeat business suggests that everything has been done above board. That isn’t naivety speaking, just plain suggestion based on available evidence.
I'd agree apart from sanches. Didn't he refuse to play?

I think they might have already spent the money on Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita and van Dijk, I could be wrong though.

"Make an offer for Messi, and invite him to come play with Phil. In fact all of their players that have been tapping him up, talk about how they are welcome to join us to play with Phil."

"And what happens when Messi starts laughing uncontrollably at the thought of playing here making a mug of the club?"

"Why would he laugh uncontrollably at that? Has he done that before or something?"
