Unfortunately i'm finding it difficult to laugh at Liverpool right at this moment - ambitious in the transfer market and really trying to build on their positive trajectory.

What trajectory ? From 4th to 4th?
Or are u just alluding to their incredibly fortunate draws in the CL?

I really wish some of you who are so bloody paranoid about Liverpool would explain ... why? That's the only question I have. I really don't get it.

They are clearly making some purchases that look clever, but we've seen enough flops come from Ligue 1 in recent years to surely exercise some caution?

They are buying to improve their team, we seem to be buying players for depth. How many of our signings in the past years have come in as starters for us?

How do you know that Fabinho isn't the next Bakayoko? And they still need to upgrade GK and CB.

The thing that annoys me most is that you appear to just assume that their signings will be unqualified successes. Every signing is varying degrees of risky and they might not work out the way you expect. And I will not fall into a pit of despair just because one of our rivals is making signings. People were going apeshit over Everton this time last year, how did that work out? And people have reacted exactly like this about Liverpool several years running, how has that worked out?

The thing is when we sign players, we know they will be underwhelming. We knew what we were getting with Sissoko, Llorente.

Sanchez? Wanyama? Son? Toby? Trippier?

Stop bullshitting, just please stop it. We and EVERY other club, no exceptions, have hits and misses. You never know how it's going to work out.

EDIT: Having told people in this thread to ignore the doom-merchants, I've just ignored my own advice. I'll just leave you be until that club inevitably does something ridiculous again.

Let's look at their last five signings before Fekir, Fabinho and Keita...

VVD
Oxlaide-Chamberlain
Salah
Robertson
Solanke

Solanke apart, who was considered a young project, they've all been excellent and improved the first team. They've clearing got the recruitment strategy right at the moment. Of course you never know how a signing will settle, but to me Keita and Fekir have so much quality, they are about as low risk as it gets.

I just can’t see how their spending is sustainable let alone wages. Those 3 just signed must be on huge wages. Last financials turnover was £364 wages £208 if you take 50% as a barometer they are already pushing it. Ok will get a bonus for CL run but they must be very borderline FFP right now.

Let's keep in mind that they lost Can, who while not being world class, was at least used to the Premier League. They are replacing him with Naby Keira, who looks like a good player in the Bundesliga, but will need to adjust to the league first. Also, he seems to have a habit of getting sent off, so will miss games regularly. Then they add Fabinho, who may or may not be an upgrade on Henderson/Wynaldum (spelling?).

They sold Coutinho in the winter and Fekir can be seen as his replacement. I would seen that as a clear downgrade. With lily-white tinted glasses, I would say Eriksen > Coutinho >>> Fekir.

Also, always worth to keep in mind that the new signings will not be an extra man on the pitch. Someone will have to make way for them. So if they add Fabinho, they are adding him while leaving Henderson/Wynaldum out. Sure, it will add depth to their team, but how much will it really improve their starting 11?

I think they are at a similar point to us, in that it is very difficult to improve the first team with reasonable transfers. They cannot compete with the Manchester teams, Barcelona or Real Madrid, so they have to gamble with some of their signings, just as we need to. Sissoko for £30 million was such a gamble. Didn't really work out as we all hoped, but it at least added some depth. Liverpool's signings might "work out" in a similar fashion.

They were always going to close the gap as we’ve been shitting on them for them last 2 years. We’re not going to finish 10 + points ahead of them every season. Christ, even West Ham finished above them a couple of years ago so well done Liverpool for closing the gap.

Tone down the aggression. Im not here to bat in their corner. But im able to acknowledge what they do well....

What is this weird obsession with Liverpool in here. I get Arsenal and especially Chelsea for obvious reasons. I honestly dont get the dick measuring contest from the respective fan bases w.r.t to the Bin Dippers.

They closed the gap last season due to us being at wembley, in fact, they got one less point than the previous season and that was with salah scoring 32 goals for them, so compare the rest of the squad to their performances in the previous season and it can be argued that they did worse.

I think we did very well at Wembley to be honest and dont see that as an excuse for where we finished the season. I could be wrong but i would hazard a guess that we actually did better there than away( could be wrong to lazy to check).

I think they did great considering they lost their talisman Coutinho. Many on here predicted they would fall apart.

However your point is valid that they had a lower points total than the season before... Same applies to us though. Lets hope that our business in the transfer window coupled with being back home at WHL.. Ensues that we still continue that dominance.

It's mainly a response to the way the Liverpool fans have been acting towards us over the last few years.

Actually, you could condense that a bit: it's a response to the way Liverpool fans act.

It's because Liverpool fans are ****s at the best of times, but when they are successful they are are completely unbearable ****s.

I wondered into this thread in late December by chance..... Made some complimentary remarks on their transfer business and boy was a force unleashed....

However on your comments above ive come to the following conclusion.. They just dismissive of us as a team (their usual arrogance & living off former glory).. However im begining to believe our fan base and in particular SC posters are obsessed with those c.. Kind people.

When we played the dippers the match day thread was in the 120s + of pages.. When we played Arsenal it couldnt reach 80.. I found that baffling.. But yes i cant disagree with your assessment.

Aggressive?

Sorry if you read it that way, I guess.

I don’t think we’re obsessed with Liverpool, the reason why everyone is talking about them is because, you know, we’re in the let’s laugh a Liverpool thread.

Joking aside, I know what you mean but it’s understandable as they’re a rival and an annoying one at that. Personally speaking I don’t mind them to much as most of my Liverpool mates are alright but the ones on the internet are fucking twats (a lot of them anyway). But I guess internet does that.

It's their transfer strategy I'm envious of. Each signing/media link fits a specific profile, gets signed early for a decent preseason and they never scrabble around on the last day of the window trying to fill glaring gaps.

The players themselves might not live up to the hype, but that's football. Their transfer strategy is clear, precise and sorted by July. Ours is slow, random and we waste a lot of time chasing shadows.
