I would say that Saints are the model club for the Also-rans of the EPL.

They were everyone's favourites to get relegated when they sacked Adkins and replaced him with Poch. Then again when Poch and half the team left but they have remained a very good footballing side and produced/found some superb talent. They have done this for 6-7 seasons.

NB no smart arse comments about Leicester. They had a freak season (I hope)

Pellegrini being linked with the now, could be another sound appointment by them if Koeman does go and he's drafted in.

I'd be sick of the premier league to after bejng screwed over at his previous 2 clubs. But with saints, there the ones who have been screwed over in the past few years so maybe it might worked out.
Yeah he must be sick of the league and the clubs that screwed him over to the the tune of £10m in compensation for being incompetent in his job. He must sit there looking at his bank statement and be thinking - 'really, is that all I got, £10m for 18 months work in the PL'. Wish I could earn 10% of that in that time.

Gonna be hard though - Lukaku's gone, and Stones probably too. After that, you at their squad and there's not much there - Barkley, Coleman...

As he's a good manager he's probably licking his lips at what defenders he can buy with the show pony money for Stones

I doubt he complains about the money he earnt but I don't think after his experiences with Chelsea and ourselves he'll be looking for a Prem job again.

They don't go for the obvious but it seems to work for them.

Koeman was pretty well known, and I was familiar with Pochettino from his playing days, but I've never heard of this guy! Then again, you couldn't pay me to watch French football.

They were known but not the obvious choices. Southampton don't seem to join in on the lazy manager merry-go-round. They actually seem to do their homework. Rather too well considering it then becomes impossible to hang on to managers and players!

Puel has a good track record of promoting youth, though his preferred playing style seems to be quite rigid and cautious. Don't expect high-up-the-field pressing anytime soon.

I was mixing him up with Paul Le Guen and thinking this was a baffling appointment. Now I see it's not him I expect they've made a good choice again.

Claude Puel is the new manager. I don't even know him which is bad on my part

On the face of it, a really smart, under the radar appointment. He did a pretty impressive job with Nice last year, getting them to 4th. He won the french league with Monaco in his first stint as a manager and got Lyon to the CL semi finals. He also got Lille into the CL while he was there a few years ago.

Have Southampton dropped a bollock with Boufal then?

Unusual as they've signed some cracking players in recent years.

Maybe he'll come good next year? (Then be sold following summer lol).

He was coming back from a nasty knee injury when they signed him. I think that has stalled has adaptation a bit. Probably next season until they can see the real him.

No particular reason to laugh at the SCBC. Well run, constantly shipping players to bigger clubs for big fees & still punching in the top division.

Good luck to 'em, I say.

Boufal coming on clinched the game for us, that's how bad he was.
Seem to remember he was really poor coming on for Tadic in the EFL final too.

Think he needs time to adapt though. He's only 23 and I seem to remember he didnt make his debut until like late October or November due to injury. I know he missed the ACON due to an injury and i think he got hurt again for a few weeks leading up to the cup final. He's got talent. Would be stupid to freeze him out like that tweet was suggesting. I guarantee Poch wouldnt freeze him out over poor performances when he hasnt been able to get a run in the team due to injury.

I cant hate them, to be honest. I actually have a lot of respect for them. Their fans have an obsession of hating us but whatever. They're a well run club, they go about things the right way, and are able to constantly withstand overhaul and end up mid table. More power to them. Not many clubs can do that without a ton of money to splurge on players
