To be honest, i hope we can build a team that can hold its own without looking out of place of the top 4. I hope it will have flair and passion with players wanting to give it all for the club and making themselves hard to beat. Each match i hope they win, even if i know that there will be games that will be harder.
More importantly, i want a Tottenham that i can be proud come win lose or draw.
As for Citeh, as well as Chelsea...when their Real life Football Manager gamers get bored and take the money out, they will be fooked! Fergie won't be at Utd forever and when he's gone, they will never be the same. Wenger has single handidly kept Arse strong by making great players out of good players. Liverpool will always be somewhere there...but where!
Money will buy you the world class players, but world class players don't make world class teams. World class managers do. Hopefully we have one that has the potential to be up there with them maybe???

I was ready to come in here and really let rip at the utter tool who would even consider putting this post up....however, on reflection.... Good work, Rob. Always nice to garner a consensus of opinion on the hot topics of the day... :shifty:

The only thing I'd like to add to this thread is that, while I would tenderly love Daniel Levy in soft, gentle ways and in deeper darker places than he could dream of, to suggest we are some idyllic little club who don't spend money is, frankly, piss.

Romanticise it all you like but the best thing that can be said about us is that we're well run enough to be able to afford to splash the cash. For years we've spent as much as any side in the league. And - as SS57 I think pointed out some time back - it was only the signing of Woodgate that was the first time in years we've signed a player actually experienced enough and of sufficient top level calibre. This summer, we've continued this, praise be.

However, regardless of monies recouped, our policy for recruitment is 'spend, spend, spend.'

It's actually pretty insulting to other clubs (including many in the Premier League) to suggest we're this poor hard done by outfit. Us signing Bentley was not that different from United's pursuit of Berbatov (just less the tapping up - we hope).

However, my final point - and the reason, if othing else, I think Levy should stay and be given the chance to take us to the highest level - the very fact that so many of us here are (albeit a little wistfully) comparing Spurs to the Utds, Chelseas, Arsenals, Liverpools, etc rather than the Middlesbroughs, Blackburns, West Hams, or Boltons in the league, is the Chairman and his approach to every aspect of running THFC.

I don't think there is anything wrong with debating this issue, its a legitimate topic of discussion.

I am still annoyed about how Jol was ousted, I am not pleased about the Berba/ Campbell swop or that we sell our best players every time they bitch and whinge but Ramos had a say in this too. I just worry that Levy may do something rash if results aren't going well.

The good that he is done far far out way the bad. I like the policy of getting players at a young age and trying to develop them into first players. Maybe one or two players might come through out of twenty but thats better than nothing.

I am pleased with the players that we got in the transfer window almost perfect for me. A mega rich tycoon could take us to the next level but it could mean a lot of upheaval and the tycoon may have less patience than Levy & co. I am happy to stick with Levy just as long as he going to be patient and realistic. I do think Levy & co will sell up eventually though.

Lets be honest...what happened at City is very unlikely to happen at the Lane....can you imagine a bunch of Muslim Arabs buying a club that chants Yids!.

Levy has done well and imo has conducted himself with dignity. Berbs was an absolute disgrace and Keano wanted out, nothing he could do about that. He has bought some cracking players and I am looking forward to watching them.

Although he did mess up last seasons league performance with the shambles he made of swapping Jol with Ramos (it should have been done preseason), and the start of this season with the Berbatov mess (yes we got nearly 31 million and a player on loan but the first two games were lost to beatable opposition, when competing for top 4 those 6 points were worth more than the 6 million gained by stringing it out),

he is doing a good job on the financial front so it's up to Ramos to ensure that the football side of things is taken care of.

Spurs must be one of the healthiest clubs financially.

We need someone like Levy around to make the new stadium build a success.

Hope he stops messing with the football side of things.

Wow! This poll shows that the most negative are indeed the most vocal. It seems that 10% of the board is jumping up and down, spitting their dummy out and forcing everybody else to watch them.

I am glad the vast majority's quiet dignity.

Some people never compare managers or chairmen with other managers or chairmen; instead they compare them to some flawless, mythical ideal. If you think Levy is bad, would you rather have Bill Kenwright? Or Mike Ashley? Or Eggert Magnusson? Or whoever is in charge at Stoke?

No. You'd rather have an imaginary chairman who is perfect in all ways, spends hundreds of millions of pounds every window, does exactly what the fans want, and who wraps up all transfers without anyone complaining. These chairmen don't actually exist. Levy's not pefect, but he's better than nearly every other alternative.

This is a difficult one. I would much rather have Levy than any of the previoous chairmen since the league started...but I would not shed a tear if a rich gazillionaire decided to do a Man City on us.

Sensible People 138, Idiots 15. That seems pretty conclusive to me.

Can we ban the Idiots now?

If Levy sells up then i fear that our policy of buying young Brittish talent will go with it. Daniel Levy is Spurs through and through and has done a great job buiding from the ground up. We're closer than ever to being a top 4 club now and we have one of the best managers in world football. Above all that, Daniel always fights tooth and nail for this club. He doesn't let people walk over us and he keeps the clubs finances in the black, depite spending big money on transfers to improve the squad. If he ever sells then he must do so to someone who is as passionate about this club than Daniel is.

Our club may be for sale one day but the history and tradition of this great football club, will never be sold!

That this poll is even on this message board, brings to mind the phrase "Don't know your born sonny boy.."

They didn't want to be here. Well, we were initially told by several ITKs that Keane would be happy to stay if we didn't want to sell, but clearly we decided to cash in. If we haven't directly replaced him there's enough firepower and creativity in the midfield to compensate.

Do you really believe that because apart from Bentley's decent assist record over the last two season non of our new midfielders have a record of goalscoring and creativity you expect them to replace. Combining goals and assists together for last season Keane and Berbatov contributed nearly 70 goals to our club last season which means the new attacking player we have brought in (Pavlyuchenko, Bentley, Gio, Modric and Campbell) have to replace that contribution.

Now in my mind the only one who has any premier league experience is Bentley but for the first two games he was played on the left. Now in time the players we have bought may replace what we lost in Keane and Berbatov but most fans would expect the players that we buy to replace the contribution of Keane and Berbatov pretty quickly because without the goals and assists of Keane and Berbatov we maybe lucky to score 50-60 goals in all competitions this season let alone the hundred we have scored in the last two seasons.

That being said I am still optimistic that our new players can adapted quickly to the league and we will still manage a top half finish this season and a couple of decent cup runs.

Now onto the actual topic of the thread. Do I want Levy to go? No; mainly because I don't think there is anyone out there that could do a better job at this time. Would I want to him to go if there was someone out there that could do a better job? Yes.

You can add Bent to that. Though he is not new he will obviously contribute to filling the gap left by those other 2 fellas. And he has loads of Prem experience.

I'm sorry but this is a totally ridiculous question. How can anybody older than 6 consider this seriously.

Rob
Can you tell me the last time we had a chairman that even came close to making us a great football team and profitable at the same time ?

We are both at the moment.

I really don't understand this stream of whining and negativity. We need a couple of players. Big deal. We have a huge kitty and are sure to get them sooner rather than later.

This is the best spurs squad that I have seen period (I'm 42). Even better - as a squad - than the81/82. The first 11 is close but as a squad it's now. And I know it will get better in the next two windows.

We were a whisker - even according to your own ITK ("The goat understands that Arshavin is done bar the medical") of having a forward option of Pav/Arshavin/Bent/(Campbell). Aded to a defensive options of Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, King, Glberto, Hutton & Bale and mifield options of Modric, Bently, Huddlestone, Jenas, Zokora, Dos Santos, Lennon, Bale.

Plus about 30-50 million to spend next window.

How the F can anyone with a memeory span longer than 6 years not appreciate the position we are in.

Are we a great football team? A good one but we're not great - yet.

Agree we only need a couple of players but it is a big deal - it could make or break our season. But by the time they come in it may be too late for this season. And as the grass is seemingly always greener for our best players (Keane, Berbs) then by that time it may be four players.

You can't compare to the 81/82 squad. Football's changed so much now and we (or anyone else) didn't have squads of 23 players back then. The reserves really were the reserves and strength in depth was not what it is today.

I agree he should stay, but I don't think it's a ridiculous question at all. Levy's been here 7 years now and although we've prgressed it's not been to the heights of what any of us would've hoped. If we're in the same position this time next year then I expect the shouts to get louder.....
