Pathetic half of football. You can dig out individuals for glaring errors but as a collective it's just been plain bad. Possession awful, pressing non existent, defensively all over the place, out worked all over the pitch, and the once chance we did have wasted.

Even the guy doing the BBC live text knows what the problem is:

And, have Spurs learned nothing from Liverpool's past five games? Plenty of others worked out that defending deep was a good way to go against the Reds.

Embarrassing we've let them play the exact way they want by playing exactly how they wanted us to.

Three at the back worked because Vertonghen naturally covered the left wing back and Rose/Walker have the pace to get up and down. I don't think 3 at the back would necessarily fix this today.
What will ? I don't see any of our subs making a difference. I'd throw on janseen at HT and mabye winks or sissoko or wimmer or N'koudu 2 changes and a slight change of shape, it can't get any worse so why not.

It absolutely is. Wrong framework.

Sigh

Wish we had SC matchday chat managing over Poch. They always can spot any tactical error he do. Let's just forget that Poch himself said 2 weeks ago that we change formation dozens of times every match. But today Davies (among many other) have a shocker so we get murdered so it's Poch's fault.

I can tell you right now if we fielded 3 CB's including a poor Wimmer and Dier with say Trippier on the "wrong" wingback position we would still have getting murdered today.

Is it even 4-2-3-1? I have no idea where half the 4 have been, or where any of the 3 have been playing. Wanyama forgot how to pass, Dembele forgot how to dribble and not lose the ball.
It's been 4312 since about 20 minutes.

How is it that every man and his dog foresaw Sadio Mane tearing Ben Davies a new arsehole except for Poch?! Playing a fucking high line against liverpool is idiotic and we've rightly been destroyed because of it.

Was hard enough coming into this game as it was, let alone basically giving them a helping hand.

Remember when we're shit and used to go to Anfield and get a draw thanks to goals in the last minute from Ramon Vega.

Now we are actually good we just go and roll over for them like good little puppies.

This is fucking dire.

It's not that when we don't have the personnel for it. It's just the Davies/Son combination, the latter doing so little to track back and help Davies.

They have a 2v 1 situation all the time.

Needs to bring Sissoko on to shore that side up a bit or this could be a rout.

To be honest, don't think we have the personnel for this formation either. At least the 3 at the back doesn't rely on son getting back.

It is absolutely astonishing how Poch could look at Liverpool this season -- the way they have absolutely shredded teams who try to play against them and how dreadfully poor they are against teams that sit deep -- and decide yeah, let's have a go.

We have to make a change to give Davies cover and try to neutralize Mane but it won't fucking matter. We always, always struggle against teams that press us and won't be able to cope with it in the second half any better than we did in the first. Our best hope was to sit back and hit them on the counter, but at 2-0 down the smash and grab tactic is totally worthless.

I thought Poch might have realised that we have to change our approach to the big games after City. It's so obvious that we need to move the ball forwards faster and keep passing between our defenders to a minimum when the better sides come at us and press us.

Need a big change in the second half.

Could it have been any worse playing the 3-4-2-1 with Wimmer at LCB and Davies at LWB? At least that cover would have been there on that side even if not the pace. Don't understand why Poch didn't change it for this, or if we played 4-2-3-1 whoever was on the left side of the 3 needed to stay disciplined holding the line. Right now Clyne and Mane have an insane amount of freedom.

Whatever happens in the next 45 minutes, this and the City game should be a reminder that while we're a good team, we're a long way from being a great one. We aren't title contenders, just one of five good teams fighting for three champions league places.

We have been poor.
But if Son would have scored his one against one, mayB a different story too

Davies weaklink
Wanyama not the player i expected today
Dier poor so far

Their pace and agression is scaring us.
If we score one and press we can try to at least draw this...

People can talk about the elusive "bottle", but that was a half fashioned by two coaches. Klopp got everything spot on. Pressed our defence, pressed Dembele and Wanyama, cutting off our oxygen. It's like all his gegen-pressing dreams come true.

Poch just didn't tailor us to these opponents, and then didn't change things, when he could see them collapsing.
