I bet Sports Direct are fuming as they are already selling Team GB football shirts with 'Beckham' and '7' on the back.

I meant caulker is unlikely to play for us in our first game.
fair enough, but Livermore probably will as we may not have Sandro(due to olympics) and may not have parker due to injury, and we are still unsure if Hudd is fit

I would be surprised if Livermore is picked for GB squad

Bellamy & Giggs are in for sentimental reasons, nothing else.
Both are at the end of their careers and never made it to a major international tournament because they're Welsh. That's the only reason they're in, pure and simple.

As for Richards, it's disgraceful that he gets into the squad after rejecting going on standby for England.

I am amazed Jordan Henderson has been overlooked, he was England's Pirlo in our last game.

Great stuff!

Thanks.

Just to pass comment on some football "experts" ( not any of you guys) saying that the Team GB football is not important or that it is a joke. I'm sick of hearing this kind of crap. Not every competitor plays football for the money. Some, like the Women's team, do it for the glory and are incredibly proud to represent their nation so who are these ridiculous has beens to say otherwise

I can have a link to where it says he rejected England?

Also it was a joke that Terry did make the squad so I don't blame him tbh

Well it was strange that we didn't play the Ox in that match as he controlled the midfield against pirlo in the Ac milan match

I'd like to see them ask Messi what he thinks of his Olympic gold medal.

So far everything I've seen in disagreement with Beckham being left out has been because it would be nice for him to play. I've not seen anyone try to claim he should be picked because he's the best right sided midfielder available to play.

who cares

Football is a show sport in the Olympics, a bit of fun. You cannot compare it to swimming , athletics or rowing where competitors have trained every day for years just for this event. Football at the Olynmpics is nothing more than a testimonial and Beckham deserves more respect than he has been shown by the clueless Pearce.

In the men's game they do, glory is a distant 2nd to money in the modern game

Whay do most Tottenham fans want us to play in the CL over winning the League Cup, not glory.

It's not just football where the Olympics isn't the ultimate event though. Look at tennis, Murray is going to represent us, but I'm sure his dream has always been to win Wimbledon or one of the Grand Slams - should we let Henman take his place as a nice goodbye? Frank Bruno in the boxing may-be? They may not be the best examples, but it's really down to the manager who he picks and Pearce is too honest to pick anything but what he considers the best team. If the Olympic comittee wanted to give Beckham his place as a thank-you they should have told Pearce that when they gave him the job.

Pearce has always been as thick as a plank of wood , the Olympic committe should get shot of him and appoint Beckham player - coach

This is Pearce's Steve McClaren moment

I'm no fan of Pearce either to be honest. Wasn't Harry up for taking that job as well? He's got a bit of spare time to do it now.

Does the team manager win a medal as well, or is it just the players?

Not for the 15 u23 players in the squad it isn't.
