They need to sort out the regurgitation of the players they’ve just bought first. I don’t think it will be quite so simple as sell De Jong then straight away buy Bernardo.

If he thinks City is coming for him and that’s what he wants, us bidding now won’t matter. He’ll wait for them.

Well maybe, but maybe not. Barca need to sell FDJ, City need to do a deal with them for Silva, and City need to meet Lyon's asking price. That's a few hoops to jump through from Paqueta's side.

If we came in this week for example and met the asking price, I don't think it's given he waits for City. In fact I think we'd have a good chance of landing him.

Cucurella has shown that a player won't always wait around for City if another CL club come in for them.

If Paqueta waited for City and turned us down, we look elsewhere, and City then change their mind, the player would be left with nothing.

The more I think about it, the more I disagree with your take tbh. It's too simplistic. I think we could get him if we move quickly.
