Paqueta strikes me as the kind of signing that "old" Spurs would have made. Before there was a clear game plan and managers who took what they were given. All shiny and exotic and technical but no real idea of how to accommodate him - and just an assumption it will work. NZ looks like a Conte player in every regard.
Sorry but I disagree, Paqueta is an extremely hard worker defensively who would suit Conte’s tactics to a T. He likes to operate on the right side of midfield and would be able to play in Kulu’s role and in a CM 3 and he’s no push over physically. He’s alsomore creative then Zaniolo which is what we are lacking. would be a perfect signing for our current team really.

Question for you as you seem more informed on Paqueta than most - why do you think he struggled so much at Milan?

What do you think that reason is?
Tbh it doesn't matter what I think about it. If Conte has decided Zaniolo is his guy. Then there's obviously something he's seen that we all haven't. Yes I rate Paqueta, but he's second choice, it's not a bad consolation.

My opinion personally is Conte Likes his big physical units, Zaniolo ticks that box, has a bit of pace and power to him and can create in his own unique way. Conte clearly wants someone like that in the squad.

Only Conte knows what plans he's got in terms of system and tactics to utilise him properly and efficiently, but he definitely has something in mind and that's what excites me.

Commented on this before. There where a multitude of reasons but essentially miss management due in a large part to the complete and utter mess AC where at that point. In his short period of time he had three managers and Giampaolo in particular would often play players out of position. This on top of the fact it was his first time playing outside of Brazil, a fact that many seam quick to ignore when using his time at AC to criticise him , which resulted in a player that couldn’t settle in a team that didn’t have an identity. I can’t think of many young players who come out of South America and smash it straight away.

It’s true that Pioli went on to build a successful team but that was a while after. When they decided to ship him out, Milan were not flush and they made a business decision on a player that they were not sure how to best utilise. And even then there were factions that thought it was a mistake, indeed, he actually put in some rather good performances, especially for Gattuso when he first joined, but was never really given a chance to build on them.

Really, his time at AC is absolutely nothing to be ashamed at and if anyone should be ashamed it should be Milan for being a complete and utter mess of a club at that point.

It's quite simple, Conte wants a player that can play a certain role how he wants him to play it and he is most confident that player is Zaniolo. He is also confident that Paqueta can be that player but he's more sure of Zaniolo so he's first choice. It's not necessarily about who's the best player.
