The intrigue. So how fast do you think you’re buying his shirt if we sign him? Part of me wants to believe it’s this scenario where if we sign Spence we go for a Paqueta. If we can’t get Spence, we go Maddison and a cheaper RWB from Italy.
I think this position hinges on Spence. If we can get him in then we can opt for a foreign Creative Mid like Piqueta, Fabian Ruiz or Carlos Soler if not then it limits us to Maddison and JWP. I would much rather we bring in Spence as the creative mid options from abroad and far better than the RWB options.

I get this, too, but if we are going to completely hamper our squad building because of some 21 year old RWB with potential, why not just keep a Harry Winks around and invest anyway?

We have the money, we have other players to sell, and in the end signing Spence for £15m or signing a Molina for €18m, keeping Winks, flogging off other unwanted players and still signing a Paqueta just makes more sense to me in theory? Our other positions to fill as it stands just aren’t going to require that much money.

They clearly want the Rwb and don’t want winks.

Trix has explained the situation in the Spence thread. Spence is AC’s compromise signing which provides scope to get his preferred signings in other positions.

Keeping Winks also wouldn’t allow us to bring in more Non HG. It’s not like HG offset non-HG. You get 17 non HG. Whether winks is here or not has no bearing on that.

if we want an RWB, another CB and an AM and only have room for 2 more non-HGs, one of those additions has to be HG.

Nothing to do with Winks at all.

According to BBC, Arsenal are definitely interested in him.
