All the ITK and Media outlets have said spurs decided to choose the more experienced Moura so it sounded to me like our choice
So what makes it that he wasn't good enough for us?

We needed to add an attacking option pretty badly in the winter window and we were able to get Lucas then when seemed like Bordeaux wouldn't sell in the winter and we were probably looking at a bidding war here this summer which is coming to fruition.

Malcom does not fit the current need at our club for a wide forward capable of competing and providing depth with Son and, like Sonny, filling in at center forward in the event of an injury.

The Brazilian we should be targeting (or should have targeted) at that position is a David Neres. If we had gone in for him from the beginning of the window, like Liverpool does with its transfers, we might have gotten something done at 20-30M. Instead we spent the whole summer chasing our tails with Zaha and Martial — two deals that simply will not happen for us, despite the tabloid headlines and the fans’ hopes over the next two weeks. Bummed that this summer looks like a wasted opportunity to continue building and acquiring key pieces.

Wonder if they want Dembele off the left as that is the hole in their line up but still want another similar player to rest Messi off the right?
Dembele is very two footed, but he looks a lot more comfortable on the right IMO. I would understand Willy as he has experience, but Malcom is also very raw. Barca's transfer policy is a mess.

Yeah, they bought a player as a Neymar replacement who's best spot was Messi's position. Thats the way I think they're going to try to do this though. Malcom to back up Messi and have Dembele shift over to the left and have Coutinho drop into Iniestas spot.

Big downside however, is if he rips it up at Barca, is that it's a player we probably could have signed quite easily earlier in the summer.

I think going for Martial and Zaha is the right thing to do but to be honest right now I can't see us getting either. I could see Levy willing to pay stupid money late on to 'back Poch' but imagine both Utd and Palace will stand firm.

I mean its looking likely we could have sold malcom down the line for a tidy sum where as moura I think will have some longetivity with us.

If we were still intrested in him (as ITK suggested), I guess it didn't work out due to homegrown spots, not money
What the hell is all that about HG? Is it just a sort of transfer policy in which the club wants to bring english players or is it something related to FA rules about limited spots for foreigners like in almost every other league in the world? Got confused to be honest

Good point, the likeihood that Malcom would jump ship as soon as he played well is pretty high so that would mitigate things.

Clubs are only allowed a maximum of 17 foreign players in their 25 man squad. The remaining 8 spaces have to be made up of home grown players.

I may be wrong but I dont think either of you know what constitutes a Home grown player. Being home grown doesnt necessarily mean English. It means that the player was brought up through an English academy despite nationality. Cesc Fabregas was classified as home grown back in the day and he is Spanish. In other words a Foreigner can also be Home grown.

And Dier and Davies don't count, which sucks. Is there any sort of plea we can make to get those two changed?! Would seem like players from the UK regardless should count towards HG as thats what the whole point of the initiative is, or so I thought.
