What Kicker actually say: BVB want to sign Götze in addition to Schürrle (who they agreed a 5-year-deal with) and that might not be it.
EXTRA EXTRA!! Titanic sunk!!!!!!!

Seriously, this news was from the paper version of Kicker, which was published past Monday. That means the article was actually prepared at the earliest on Sunday. It's already 3 days old. In the ever-shifting world of transfer news, it might as well be as old as Titanic news. And why is it that this news only surfaced today?

Sure I saw an article saying his future should be sorted in the next couple of days, so we'll find out one way or another quite soon.

Although I said I'd believe any reports that suggested we would sign Gotze, I wouldn't sink this low.

This much is reported by Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli. Giulianelli reckons the 24-year-old former Dortmund star is not ready to move to Dortmund and is instead keen on joining Tottenham. Which if true will be a surprise considering he was expected to go to Liverpool and reunite with his former manager Jurgen Klopp.

According to Giulianelli, Gotze’s father has held talks with officials from Spurs. The player is said to be happy with the feedback from his dad after discussion was held and is on the verge of agreeing personal terms with the club.

That's not fact up for debate, it's a given. That's why I said what I did. There are a lot of stories about him at the minute, too many to just be idle rumour. Theres a very good reason LFC aren't pursuing this & I'd trust Klopp more than most regarding this player to know he's not right. Great talent, but there are issues there!

But you're suggesting that Klopp has decided not to go for Gotze because he's heard rumours about him. Why on earth would he make a decision based on rumours when he knows the player well and could likely pick up the phone and call him if he wanted to.

In reality, Liverpool likely pulled out because they are not in the CL and Mario likely made it clear that he only wants to be at a club playing that level of football.

Nothing to see here.

A fresh article from Sportbild only 2 hours ago. Not much new really. google translated.

Come idol back ?

The Euro Cup in France should obviously bring improvement , but on the situation of Mario Gotze Bayern Munich little changed . Götze ( 24 , contract until 2017 ) himself would like to stay at Bayern . But under new coach Carlo Ancelotti , he has a hard time .

Even when it was unveiled on Monday said Ancelotti on Götze : " For me he's a Bayern player , so I treat him that way. I 've talked with him a month ago and told him what kind of football I want to be playing . " But on the meaning of this statement , he did not enter .

In recent weeks, Götze has been associated with Tottenham and Liverpool in connection especially . But the BVB want to bring him back to Dortmund absolutely . After SPORT BILD information to Götze, he can now also imagine a return to the BVB . The decision should and must fall in the next few days .

No, I said he's decided against signing him because he's spoken to people back in Germany. Not rumours.

I feel we could get this done quite easily if we really put the effort in but we seem to be not to fussed.

It's like Gotze is an ok looking women who keeps smiling at you but you kinda want someone younger and firmer so not really laying on the full charm

If we were to sign him - where would he play? He'd be taking Ali's place I assume - so I can't really see this as being something that we absolutely would want to pull off.

Maybe I'm wrong - but really, would he be worth it if he were stunting Ali's growth? Or is this the kind of competition Ali needs? We have enough games I suppose were both would get play time but each are players who would want and deserve to be playing every week.

He's better than what we have. So we should sign him. Simple.

Yeah, I understand that he may be better than what we have, but Ali has played one season and he was immense - he'll only improve and has a much higher ceiling than Gotze (who, maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see him becoming a better player than he already is).

I'm asking is it worth jepordising Ali in order to shoehorn Gotze into the side. Maybe both can be utilised. How do we line up if he signs on the first day of the season and what are the repurcussions?

It's called competition for places.
Both Alli & Eriksen need to have a threat to their place in the first team in order to get them to the higher level they can get too (in Eriksen's case more consistency).
Not only that, but it doesn't take much to rule either out through injury and leave us with a lack of cover - Alli suspension being a prime example.

We need to sign good players who can be rotated in/out with minimal impact, not just sign players for the sake of padding out the squad.
