It's pablo v archibald in the Petrov ITK battle! pablo says it's all gone tits up and MP is off to City, while archie says DC has called in the Club Secretary to co-sign the deal and it's just down to personal terms and a medical.

Of course they might not be so far apart if the fee is agreed with Atletico. The personal terms are the key thing and ours may not be as good as Citeh's.

But he'd be a braindead breadhead to choose them over us.

in fairness Archie's bit was yesterday morning and Pablo's was early evening yesterday. a lot could have changed over the course of the day after Archie posted.

but Petrov would be mad to go there instead of to us, plus i'd never hear the end of it as my dad is a city fan.

Isn't it about time Tottenham started paying top wages. If Man City get Petrov because of wages it's a joke.

Petrov set for City despite Spurs and Hammers interest

Manchester City appear to have beaten Tottenham and late interest from West Ham to the £6m signing of Bulgaria midfielder Martin Petrov.
The Atletico Madrid winger, 28, flew to Manchester for talks yesterday rather than go to north London and is expected to have a medical today.

Very dissapointing. Did we decide we dont want him, or have we been trumpped by City? Not happy either way and cant see us bagging a leftie this window.

I'm guessing we didn't want him, he would be mad to reject us. However there is a huge chance that city could've offered him mega bucks which put us out of the picture.

Yeah surely he didnt pass the medical if anything. Again if he chose Man City over us then he wasnt the player for us. Spurs can offer 1st team football and UEFA cup and MAn City can offer dough. If he chose the money then he didxnt have the qualities we look for.

The reports im reading this morning suggest that Man City have bid higher then us which is possibly why he is talking to them. there is no confirmation out there that he has signed for Man City is there-just that he is in talks. If he is weighing up his options then that is fair enough I think. As long as he chooses us. I was on a Man City board yesterday having a look round and they were all confident that he wouldnt sign for them....any more straws to clutch at cos im running out here!

Edit: Just seen this-from the dailymail also that earlier dismissed our chances

And according to Sun, Wham have made a late bid for Petrov. I think both Citeh and Wham offer him bigger wages.

Yeah not bein funny fellas but we're all forgettin about Berba in this whole situation, if ever there was a deal clincher then its that! We've been saying we can offer europe etc and city can offer more money but we have one of his best mates and international teammates at our club and surely one call from Berbs to say, "stop messing about with city and get ur butt down here to sign the contract" and its game over for the blue half of Manchester!

Also, don't listen to bloody Marca, its about as reputable as the News of World's gossip section.....its not like L'Equipe, which actually has some clout with its articles. Bottom line, City have got nothing on us in this deal, the only way he doesnt join us is if we choose it to be that way....thats my opinion anyway :)

Didnt Bent chose us when he was offered bigger wages elsewhere, his reason, ambition,at Petrov's age he's probably thinking $'s and who can blame him,a case of waiting and seeing, but as someone said earlier,if the players motivation is money(step forward Lucas Neill) then he can fuck off coz we want player who are hungry for glory, they earn enough anyway

Eriksson's £6m turns up heat in Petrov hunt

Published: 26 July 2007

Sven Goran Eriksson reaffirmed his lofty ambitions for Manchester City last night with an increased bid of £6m for the Atletico Madrid winger Martin Petrov.

The former England coach has spent almost £11m since his appointment as City manager a fortnight ago and has earmarked the Bulgarian international as the solution to the left wing problem that plagued predecessors Stuart Pearce and Kevin Keegan. Petrov has long been expected to complete a £5.4m to Tottenham, who have tracked the 28-year-old for 12 months and remain keen to unite the midfielder with compatriot Dimitar Berbatov.

Armed with a substantial transfer fund from new City owner Thaksin Shinawatra, however, Eriksson has now been granted permission to speak to Petrov by Atletico having met their asking price for a player who missed six months of last season with a knee injury.

The Bulgarian is expected to arrive in Manchester to discuss personal terms within the next 48 hours and, despite the lure of Uefa Cup football with Tottenham next season and the prospect of recreating a successful international partnership with Berbatov at club level, City officials are confident they can persuade Petrov to sign.

The winger would become Eriksson's fourth signing should he accept the terms on offer, following £8.8m striker Rolando Bianchi, £2m Swiss midfielder Gelson Fernandes and Brazilian free transfer Geovanni, but would not be the last this summer.

---------------------

Agree with what others have written - if he vhooses man city it will be for the money - if that is the case then he is not the player for us. Simple as that.
