No, it's not. Petrov was the last hope for a LW. Another season with no LW is not a silly thing to say.
How do you know he's our last hope for a left winger? And if he is, you think we should sign him even if we think he's not up to it or worth splashing loads of money on?

we need Petrov to be our established first choice in that postion with Rose being the young exciting prospect.

Hopefully Rose will then get his opportunity to show what he can do and have an impact as great as Lennon.

But right now we still need someone in front of him to be the first teamer starter until Rose is ready.

That is what I meant by Routeledge (i.e. the reasons behind why we still signed him even though we had Lennon rarther then how things transpired since)

Im sure when he was signed it wasnt so he could be shit and make Lennon look good.

Rose coming in with no one in front of him may apply too much pressure as everyone will expect him to be ready already. Where as if Petrov is signed no one will really expect to see much of Rose and he can get on with developing and make the impact as and when he is ready.

Like Lennon, when he was signed there was no pressure as he was clearly 'one for the future' and Routledge was to be first choice, so I mean Petrov would do the same things for ROse as Routledge did for Lennon in regard to easing the pressure and lessening any hype.

Don't worry I knew what you meant. I just don't think we should all get upset and pissed off if we don't sign Petrov and City do, because as I say, I trust that if we don't sign him it's because he's not worth signing.

Bulgarian footballer of the year for 2006 (ahead of Berbs)... Hardly not worth signing.

If we don't sign him, it will be because City offered more money to Atletico (as reported 600,000 euro). It will be silly to let it slip for 600,000 euro.

Some of you seem to live in economic la la land when it comes to Spurs. It will be Petrov's last decent contract. ManCity have a better stadium than us that holds about 12,000 more. They have good support. They have money to spend and one of the biggest names (OK he's a dick) in management who, apart from Engerland, has had great success. It will be no harder for ManCity to achieve UEFA fotie next year as it will for us to break the top4. If it was same wages then he'd probably choose us, but if they are offering a shitload more he's at the stage of his career where it is very important to him. And City aren't exactly an unatractive package.

Please retain some perspective.

That's my opinion, too. Thanks for expressing it so well.

But that means we cannot compete for an older more experienced player in the current market. That would be a real shame. We will have to continue to buy young and hope potential is met.

I fail to believe that we won't sign him purely because we don't want to spend €600k more on him. If they do only sign him for €600k more than we offered for him, then he will have signed for them due to greater personal terms, as we will have felt it's not worth paying him such high wages.

Might be. And may be that is why we fail to make it into top 4. Because our wage structure is somewhere near the bottom of the PL...

Or maybe it's why we've got all this money to spend when we need to because we don't just blow it all on players' wages.

I think the reason why we can afford to be chosy over price ,wages and quality for a LM is due to the strides Taraabt is making and the signing of Rose. The club may well feel that the attacking options on this side of the pitch are covered by these two and with Steed and Tanio also available there is not the need now to rush into what could be a risky signing.

Did Berbatov choose us over Man Yoo because we offered more money... is He a mercanery too...

maybe Petrov feels that Citeh actually want him, as their first choice, and not "well we'd prefer wright philips or Pederson, and Martin's not really too bothered, but come to us anyway"

and whilst this may not be a factor at all and it maybe one last payday, we have all seen the ITK's saying that Petrov was our fall-back lefty, so maybe he was aware of this too (not via our ITK )

Well will see what happens, we may end up with the likes of Tanio and Steed filling in on the left again with cameos from Tarrabat and Rose as a way to blood them in.

If we lose out on Petrov (for what ever reason) I dont see us bringing anyone else in to play there.

Routledge seemed to score his goal from the left, was he playing as a left winger that game? maybe he and Lennon will share some playing time out there.

All is not lost if we dont sign Petrov, infact many will still claim that a dominatant CM is our proiority..

hopefully the likes of Huddlestone/Zokora/Rose can all step up to the required level sooner rarther then later and eradicate any percieved problems we may have now.

As a matter of fact, Citeh give him bigger wages and guarantee him to be a regular starter. I don't see us starting too often with both Lennon and Petrov.

The club have spent a lot of money this window. I am sure that if they are unwilling to pay above a certain ammount it's because they don't think he's worth it. If he really is likely to command a regular first team place then 600,000 euros is unlikely to deter Mr Levy.

I this second have just received information on the Petrov saga. Finetailendbatsman, it doesnt agree with your source, quite the opposite actually. Despite what certain tabloids are claiming i have been told that Petrov is unlikely, and if anything SWP is a more realistic signing. Its what ive been told and the source is rarely wrong.

(Above posted yesterday 4pm)

Just for reference...

FFS. Cut this BS already. United never made an offer for Berbs. They told him "wait till RVN decides what he wants to do and then we will talk". You really believe Berbs would have chosen us over united if there were 2 offers on the table?

If we fail to make it to CL this season, Berbs is leaving. It's as simple as that. Meanwhile Jol and Levy can make their plans for the future, buying 17 year olds and hoping one day they make it to the first team. Meanwhile, we'll be losing quality players like Martin and I predict this will be Berb's last year at WHL.

I am very pissed at the moment. That's all I am going to say for now. :bang:

IF Petrov is fully recovered from his injury, then it will be stupid not to sign him since he is as quick as Lennon, can cross the ball superbly, and takes the set pieces infinitely better than Jenas. If Berba wants him, then he is good enough for us, simple as that.
