:shrug:im confused SP...if it inhibits him,how ,in your words, did he manage to create chances and get up?

explain please... the way city were set up,with a top clas defensive midfield unit..which will be hard to match..luka was outstanding.
surely if luka can play against them,he will destroy others far easier.

de jong ,yaya with barry..is probably as tough as it can get,but they couldnt stop luka!!

I think what he is meaning is that when playing on the left, Modric is afforded more space on the pitch as he is not picked up and marked out of the game as much. He is therefore able to drift in and out in more of an oldschool free role when we are in posession.

unfortunately the game showed yet again why we need a top quality striker - all 4 did ok in bits when they were on but this was a game we could and should have won, but this match showed their combined weaknesses.

what at the expense of bale...imo the most exciting, dangerous left sided player by far...
why?

Hang on a minute, I'm not saying it's wrong to play Modric in the middle, I was trying to explain why he may have proved more effective in another role last season.

Bale has also been also more effective at left back as he has more space to run into. However he is clearly loving his midfield role at present and growing into it.

BAE has ensured we can't leave him out also.

all im saying is that i think because of how good he links with the hudd, coupled with how good our left side is with bale and bae,i would leave it as it is.

our problems are further up the field..imo.and i dont mean crouch or defoe.

This. It is a matter of degrees, Ely. I was recognising that he 'did' create, because I knew if I left my post as it was you (and others would jump on my back and point out that he had created chances). But I feel he creates more when he plays further up the pitch.

Well, yeah, but that is your opinion. Mine is that, except against the very top teams, 4-4-2 with Bale at full-back and Modric on the wing shuold be our preferred left sided option (that is my OPINION:grin:).

Ideally, I would like Modders to play in an advanced central role in a 4-5-1, but we would need a striker capableof that, more goals from Moccers and more goals from all over the pitch in order to do that.

And I am a big fan of BAE, by the way...but some decisions are tough.

i thought harry got something wrong on sat.
he ist sub imo, should have been gio for defoe, playing him just off crouch ,
defoe looked like he was running on empty.crouch is always a threat at set pieces etc,and in the final minutes with crouch still on ,you have the lump it in the box option, last 5 mins for instance.
keane was a waste of a substitution, our midfield were knackered, route 1 in the latter stage might have caused them more problems .

Maybe.

I certianly was very surprised to see the double JD/Courch - Keane/Pav substitution.

I think Modric was always going to become one of our center mid's, he just wasn't ready when he first joined. He looked top class there to me just like at the end of last season.

I agree that Ekotto made a mistake, but he made up for it superbly, and every player made an error at some point. One of City's best counters was off the back of a sloppy pass from the generally magnificent Modric, while, as you point out, Bale missed an absolute sitter. I don't think Ekotto can be put down too much for that. King also made a mistake in a dangerous area, just outside our area, losing the ball, before using his power and skill to regain it, it happens to anyone.

BAE 7 - He's been getting massive reps, which I agree with, however, defensively he did let SWP get behind him a couple of times. They could've scored from one of them. Then what would everyone have said?
Ravo you may want to read BBL comments above which I believe sums up BAE and other players efforts very well. In other ways if you are going to knit pick BAE, be consistant and knt pick others as well or else your posts will come across as biased and unfair.
