Seems odd for us to say we are not in for him. He is the kind of next level player we should be signing to progress with this team. On the fringes of one of the BIG clubs, for us he'd play every week when fit.

It is a bit odd. Possibly us bending over backwards to give Dier assurances, in the face of interest in him. If memory serves correct, the Dier and Kovacic statements were side by side. However, doesn't make full sense as I'd see Kovacic as more of a danger to Dembele and Winks. He's a player I've long admired, and I think he would be a superb signing for us. Don't want him to impede Winks, however, Dembele is getting on a little, in a few years time a rotation of Kovacic and Winks would be great

Would this chap be Eriksen#2? If he's a true CM, isn't this a position that we have enough talent at our disposal. However, the AM position is lacking in depth. Quality of depth I might add. Just an opinion on our midfield options throughout the season past. I remember we clearly lacked Dembele's presence and dribbling abilities once he was injured.

He's more of a CM but has the ability to play where Eriksen does. Probably wouldn't score as many as Eriksen (but he's not been finding the net much lately either). Kovacic is a very versatile player. Very much doubt we'd get him though.

Would be a fantastic addition! I agree with what some have said already, I see him as more of a threat to Dembele than Dier but he does remind me in some areas of Winks.
I would be very surprised if we got him but would be extremely happy if we did. He's got a great knack of driving the team forward with his bursts through midfield. It's something we often miss when we face a stubborn team and we just continuously pass sideways.

Don't we already have Sissoko to do that?

Madrid confirm Dani Cellabos. Surely with him, Casemiro, Modric and Kroos, Kovacic must be thinking about his future...

I'm thinking the same, would certainly be an exciting move in the right direction, can't see us agreeing to the reported buyback clause however.

Why did you have to bring that up? Now I gotta find some whisky, preferably a cheap blend burns the hope of Isco memories from me. Just loved that Real was being stupid again and going to let one of their best players go for cheap. Kovacic is not at that level but he would be a good addition. His transfer to Real was misguided from the start. He was never going to break into that side.

Kovacic could be the new VdV, unwanted by Real and cast aside, to us who greeted him with open arms.
