Never understood why he has been played at LWB consistently. Presumably injuries/fitness issues. He really struggles there because he cannot cross with his left foot.

Emerson has an engine but can’t cross with either foot.

To be fair he has had a couple of outings at RWB this season and has been abject.

He did well last night. The quality wasn't always there, but he made a nuisance of himself, got into some great positions and played a key role in the equaliser.

I heard this a few years back for former Morton captain Lee Kilday.

Think poor Matt has too many syllables in his name for it to quite roll of the tongue…

Last night was maybe the only time Doherty has looked like the Doherty we saw at Wolves.

If he can play like that regularly and make those types of runs he's a genuine asset. Clever one-twos with the striker and late runs into the box are precisely what he did so well under Wolves, and he's genuinely very good at it. For some mad reason Jose thought he could convert him into a conventional RB, though, which was clearly doomed to fail when he got roasted 50 times by Richarlison on his debut.

He's a horses for courses type of player and I don't think we can use him against teams that press us or who will force him to defend for long stretches, but in games like yesterday he's actually a very useful option to have (if he can play at yesterday's level).

Just please no more inverted wing backs - he's looked shite on the left.

I think he can do a job as RWB in Conte’s system. Could still use an upgrade but I think he’d be fine as the backup

First time he's looked fit and sharp since he's been at the club IMO. Looks like he's lost a few pounds too.

Knee jerk obviously. But he fits better than Royal into the conte system. Been shite for ages but played well tonight. Mixes his deliveries up which I like. Not a floater to the back post which Royal does mostly. Really pleased for him. Difficult problem for Conte now. If I saw the 2 halves as a neutral I would say get shot of Royal. He’s a right back tbf.

Honestly, word for word, I couldn't agree more.

It's not exactly a secret on SC, I think Doherty is truly atrocious & I'll never understand why we signed him (outside of the bent relationship that is Mendes/Mourinho) and I'm sure as hell hoping we're looking for an alternative.

However, what I saw last night from him showed me (us) that Royal is not the answer to the problem that is Doherty.

"Made a nuisance of himself" is about right. He still gave the ball away A LOT last night. Well done to him though, as that was an improvement.

You've all gone mad. Apart from getting into some good positions yesterday, it wasn't a lot to write home about.

Misplaced quite a few passes, at one time he hit the first pass right to an opponent and was lucky to get it back and struck the second pass straight to an opponent again.

Never challenges the opposition but always plays the easy pass back again when receiving the ball on the wing.

Hit the ball straight at Schmeichel when he was in on goal, the one that snuck outside the post was a decent effort though. The ball that Berg slammed in was a miscontrolled chest and follow up from him.

Don't let one game when we were in control fool you that he is worthy of another chance, needs to be sold this window. A good rwb would have created way more against the shamble of a defence that Leicester had on their left side yesterday.

Would still replace him with Traore. He did well yesterday though, just isn't good enough.

how many games should it take before we can unfool ourselves? Surely players deserve a chance to improve their performances - especially when they have a good one & may actually build some confidence. I'm not saying he is the answer to our problems but when Royal plays there then he can't cross, when Doherty plays there he is useless - I think even if we signed TAA to play there most will accuse him on not being able to defend. Conte has improved almost every single player in our squad and I think what that proves is that when players are coached in the right way they can perform better and deliver better results. I'd wait to see how Doherty performs over the coming matches before just writing yesterday off to a flukey performance that was more miraculous rather than the result of proper coach and the players desire to be better

Well done Doc. I really do like him although I am very biased being an Irish fan. Is he the solution - no. But he can play that role that we require on the right side whilst we rebuild. And let's be honest I can't see many takers banging down our door.

Absolutely not a fan of Doherty--doubt I'll ever be considering the gooner connection, but fair fucks to him. He changed the game when he came on and offered more than Emerson. I think the latter deserves time before we can finally judge him, but in the meantime, I don't think it would hurt to give Doherty a run in the side using this system if he doesn't move on before the end of the window. I don't think it'd hurt Emerson either to have some time out of the squad to continue training and hopefully improving in Conte's system. I'd rather give these guys time than spunk a load of money up the wall for the Adama Experiment.

Nobody is pretending he's Trent Alexander Arnold. But without him on the pitch that second half we wouldn't have scored.

Yes, he's been poor since he joined. But last night he was decent.

He has only had a handful of games in his preferred rwb position and in most of those games the team has been awful (yes, him included)

I think he deserves a run of games, unpopular opinion time but I'd give him until the end of the season.

I think he might suprise a few people. Emerson is good defensively, but if our plan is to continue to play Skipp in that RCM role then I'd give him a chance.

So what’s the verdict on him ? Likely to go if Adama comes ? Would be a shame because he’s perfect for our system compared to Emerson, but we just bought Emerson, so likely to stick with him.
