Wouldn't he find himself behind Vidal, Pogba, Marchisio and Pirlo? They are also getting Perreyra permanently IIRC.
They usually play with 1 DM, 2 CMs (or 3 CMs) and an AM. Perreyra would be the AM, so he would be fighting it out with Vidal (who sometimes plays AM), Pogba (rumorued to be leaving), Marchisio and Pirlo for the other 3 positions

Thing to remember about Schneiderlin is that he's currently a HG player. He's spent a lot of time in England, so is probably where he wants to be geographically - settled, knows the language, easy trips home.

London would make it easier to hop onto the Eurostar, give him a better lifestyle, etc.

I think we're in a good place, should we make an acceptable proposal.

So that moves us up to 3rd position behind Chelsea and Arsenal then?

I agree about Simon peach, but crook does get an inside track occasionally or did at one point
I don't think I have seen him get an exclusive right yet, though, I have only been reading his stuff for the past year. They only time I have seen him get anything right, was when he is ob the back of other peoples info, such as Simon Peach.

Not necessarily.

I think we can offer him the chance to work with Poch, a pretty good shout of being club captain soon, pretty guaranteed first team football, and one of the best training facilities in Europe.

Chelsea and arsenal would also be high pressure clubs - for the fee spoken of, he'd be expected to perform instantly.

I don't see him being on the Chelsea radar for anything other than tactical (to stop anyone else signing him) though.

I think he'd be hesitant to go to arsenal with Wenger bigging up Coquelin as the next big thing so much, and Chelsea have Matic and Zouma is being groomed into that role as well.

If he comes here, he can work with Poch, and is guaranteed starter. Hopefully he'll make the right decision :p

Pay the focking fee.
I takes 6 months to learn Pochs way.
This guy is ready made for the system.
If it gains us 6 points in the earlier games this could be vital come the run in next season.
If we don't get this guy Poch has a ready made excuse if it goes wrong.
Get him, there can be no excuses then and we will see if Poch is the best man for the job.

How much is the fee ? Do you actually know what Southampton want or you just guessing like the press ? Is there no limit to how much you would pay for him ?

I'd say he's worth £30m to us. Regardless of individual value, he'd completely solidify our midfield, and could turn Bentaleb into one of the best CMs around, by freeing him up.

1. Maybe exceptional was too strong, but he is still the 2nd best CDM in the PL in my eyes
2. So now you're saying we shouldn't buy him because he will be a flop? He has PL experience, which reduces the chance of that happening a lot.
3.£25m, not £35m, and I think that's reasonable for a club's best player and one of the best in his position in the league
4. We never actually bid for Lovren or Lallana and we apparently didn't even want Lallana.

The thing with players like Schneiderlin is that their value is not just determined by how good they are personally. It's what they make happen around them. You can't put a price on leadership and organizational skills. For instance, Bentaleb shouts a lot but his own positioning and organizing is often so bad that he hasn't (yet) earned the right to be barking out the orders. Same goes for Mason. When you find a player who can knit a team together you can expect to pay through the nose. For me, Schneiderlin is one of those players with the CV to back it up.

Which leaves no money for strengthening elsewhere

We spend what we get in. We will sell players this window, but can see us getting back anymore than 35-40 million
That's extremely moderate. 50-60 should be quite closer to the mark. You may not like our squad, but objectively it does hold quite some value regardless of what you subjectively think of the various players.

Can't strengthen without proper quality as we've seen the last few years. Typically you also pay for that quality. I'd sooner see us just go and buy 1 Schneiderlin instead of buying 5 Stamboulis and hoping for an Eriksen because while you might break even dollar wise you end up wasting years sifting through the sand and trying to move out deadwood. Not that I should have to explain that to you if you're a Tottenham supporter.

Schneiderlin is as proven a commodity as you can hope for. He's proven in this league across several seasons and he's proven with this manager and this system.

I'm not sure. Who earth is going to buy a 30 year old Soldado on 80k a week? Who would risk 20 mill on Lamella? Yes we can sell your Dembele and townsends for ten mill a pop, but it's the Kaboul, Adebayors we need rid of and they aren't worth anything

Wimmer 5m, Kono free, Thauvin 8m, Gignac or Ings free. We should be fine.

Not as clear cut as being "free".
Burnley would be entitled to some sort of development fee I think, which is why 2 weeks ago the papers were reporting Liverpool could be paying between £3 & 5 million for him.
