But why wait? If we value him well south of what they want waiting isn't going to make a blind bit of difference - all we do is hinder our own situation.

If its possible that waiting will see us agree after lengthy negotiations then sure, its preferable. But not if its unlikely we won't. Its a judgement call that only Levy will be able to make.

Wait because he is Poch's number one target and we have a chance of signing him. I don't believe that we're only willing to pay £15 million. Also, Southampton will be forced to sell if he won't extend the 2 years left on his contract as his value will start depreciating rapidly.

Its better to wait when we have a good chance of signing the managers number one target than to buy a player who is maybe only 2nd or 3rd on our list, just because we can get him easily.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Why does this just smell like the whole AVB Moutiniho/Hulk i want this guy and no other, surely there are alternatives (not talking cheap ones) if we can't sort this out quickly.

Last thing we need is a protracted summer of will they wont they on him. If it can be sorted out early, then all good, but it it starts to drag we need to look at others.

Well like I said we don't know what we'd be prepared to pay, so there really is no point speculating on exact figures. What I'm saying is...if we do, indeed, value him much lower than Southampton there's no point in waiting, they've already proved they won't be bullied into selling their star players for much less than they value them at - especially when other big Clubs are likely to be interested as well.

All it does is hinder our ability to sign alternatives and also delays their settling in period and Poch's plans for pre season.

I'm all for being patient and waiting if its a realistic possibility that they'll accept a bid. In order for that to happen we need to be in and around their ball park, not considerably below it - putting in bids they'd consider to be derisory. That's just a waste of everyone's time and we only end up hurting ourselves. 15 million, if true, is approaching derisory territory IMO.

One day the club will back its coach in the transfer market. I just don't think it will be today (or tomorrow).

Southampton have set a £25 million asking price for Arsenal and Tottenham target Morgan Schneiderlin,Goal has learned.

The north London rivals have both made enquiries for the midfielder but have been told Southampton will not accept any less than their valuation.

The Saints held firm last summer when they refused to entertain any bids for Schneiderlin as the player attempted to force a transfer to Tottenham.

The club are adamant that the 25-year-old will cost £25m this summer and will repeat the stance they took last year with Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

Liverpool tried to negotiate over both players but eventually met Southampton's demands for £25m for Lallana and £20m for Lovren.

Arsenal are prepared to spend up to £20m on Schneiderlin while Tottenham value the France international at around £15m.

From TH

-THFC’s transfer comfort zone was with younger players around the £10-15m price range and they would look to return to that policy

There will be no 'will he'. He only ruled out joining a non-CL club again a week or so ago.

He won't and we won't (pay that much)

I think while that is true bobby, poch has wanted MS forever and knows him inside out. He is premiership ready, knows and likes poch and his training/system.

While he is very expensive he is as close to a sure thing as we are going to get.

We bought Hoddle his Dean Richards, and Redknapp his Defoe/Krancjar/Crouch/Kaboul, and none of those especially worked out.

Big fish in a small pond to small fish in a big pond is always risky, compared to signing from a similar size club.

Look at how every player that left Southampton last summer has flopped (Lallana, Lambert, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers etc.)

He just seems so like Modric. Exactly what we're missing. He is key to improving our playing style and pushing us forward as a team imo. These types of players are not easy to come by and very hard to replace. I am so desperate for us to sign a midfielder of this ilk.

Remind me again which players got us into our ONE season of CL football? Redknapp may well have thrown them all under the bus after that, but each & every one of the players you say "didn't especially work out" were mainstays in the team that got us into the CL.
