Informative post Ziege and it has eased my concerns somewhat...of course I have done the google and youtube thing...the bottom line with this guy is the hype is being based on a single season with Fulham.

Like I said I will reserve judgemnt on the guy as I have only seen him play against us and United (and he has been good in those games) but its really the sort of signing I would be excited about if we signed him as a back up for 8m quid.

This is a guy who has had one good season and we have paid 15m for him and intend for him to be a central part (if not the heart) of our midfield.

As a Modric replacement (I know they are somewhat different types of player) it seems pretty underwhelming.

Time will tell.

I don't agree that his hype is based on a 'single season with Fulham' which is again wrong as he played over 60 games with the club. Again, mate, basic research.

Also, in that time he impressed a lot of people with not only his tackling, play making and ball control, but also with his ability to create chances on goal, his stamina, perseverance, vision, passing, creativity and overall tenacity.

Secondly, It's not just with Fulham. Not only has he been and up and coming star with the Dutch national team, but with AZ Alkmaar as well; for who he appeared well over 100 times and scored over 30 goals, despite spending a decent amount of times injured in his last season (3 months iirc), not only that, but despite that injury he was voted one of the best players of the Dutch league that year, which prompted his move to England.

He can play anywhere from CM (or deeper) to AM, and again, if you weren't impressed by those videos, which not only covered 2 years in the PL, but also time in the Netherlands and Internationally, then I don't know what to say.

Fair enough if you are lax to the transfer, but I, as well as many others are damn excited for his arrival and I think for good reason.

SK I don't get you , why does it matter if he is of African decent , he plays for Belgium and is a good player , what decent he is means nothing .
I am talking about what you consider as an exciting player. He fits the bill. There are white exciting players as well, of course, but they need to have special qualities like Ginola for example.

And what 'special qualities' do you think he doesn't have? And why?

We're buying him as a CM, Jol only moved him to CM last season...this is from my basic research!!!

From more basic research it appears he scored 24 times in 118 appearances playing as a forward for AZ. His goalscoring record for Belgium is 5 goals in 41 games. Again we are buying him as a midfielder so I am not too fussed on goals but if you want to bring it into the argument his record is hardly stellar.

Mate I could'nt give a toss about youtube videos....I said I will reserve judgement on the player as I have not seen him enough but believe me this does not mean I have not watched every video of him on Youtube, means absolutely nothing to me.

The point I am making is that Im not saying Dembele is not a good footballer or an exciting talent, I just have not seen enough of him to decide either way. What I am saying is that I am not crazy on the signing and have a bad feeling about it.[/quote]

You have the right to think it is "Dumb", but I am just telling the truth here.
1. It is overprice compared to what we could have bought him for while he was playing in Holland. (That is a fact).
2. He is of African decent - Moussa Sidi Yaya Dembélé (That is a fact).

What is dumb in this case?

Your first point there is possibly the most retarded point I've ever seen someone try to make on a forum. I don't even know where to start. And seriously, the African gimmick got boring a long fucking time ago, give it a rest.

Looks as though it is going to happen very soon. I'll be happy about it, a good signing IMO.

I say that he has special qualities and fits the bill as an exciting player. I think he is overpriced, though.
Overall a good player, but the price is too high.

Delighted about this signing. I think Dembele and Sandro is a very formidable midfield 2.

I'm chuffed to bits to be honest! He looked quality playing for Fulham and IMO will be even better for us as he will be surrounded by better players and will get more time on the ball!

This is a massive signing!

We paid 16 mil for Modric wha was unproven in PL and he did good for us I'm not altogether sod on Dembele either but his performances of late have been exceptional and I'm sure Verts has been consulted about him. Now for Llors and Willian and strike COYS

Is it just me who struggles to see why this guy is held in such high regard? I understand he shows promise at times but his lack of end product makes Walcott almost seem consistent.

If we get rid of VDV (a player with the composure, skill and end product) and replace him with Dembele (a player with skill but zero composure or end product) I will be inconsolable!

Because spurs fans just like many other fans live in a world of fantasy. They see a couple MOTD clips and suddenly players are world class.

How can you sell someone who score goals for someone who doesn't.

Dembele is good but people over hype him too much, he would be a good addition to our squad but to talk like hes good enought to replace vdv because he can run with the ball is just stupid.

I would not mind selling vdv if we get a good fee for him, but if we do that, I would like to see more people than Dembele in. If we add Willian and a couple as well, then it is fine.
