just about to start a thread myself. worst reffing performance of the season.gave us nothing. got corners ,throws ,everything wrong. nevere a red.kabouls goal was fine.hutton got booked for tackles they were getting away with

Did you see the penalty Gomes should have conceded in the first ten minutes?
One of? The worst. I have never seen such poor decision making in my life and that also includes his linesman for helping him out with the Defoe Red Card.

I'm not surprised he gives the most red cards and penalties in the premiership, he seems to be going out of his way to cause controversy. Terrible performance by a ref who is obviously out of his depth at this level and being overly strict to try and impose some kind of control on the game. Doesn't seem to have cottoned on to the fact that as a ref he shouldn't make those kind of controversial decisions if he isn't sure. He could easily have given a yellow for Defoe and no one would have batted an eye. Kaboul's goal was not conclusive enough to rule out either. Many silly decisions - Gomes, Modric, Hutton were all unfortunate to be booked.
Hardly nailed on though was it? Could you tell(100&) even off the replay that Gomes didn't get a fist to the ball first?? Cos if not you cannot give a penalty.

Gomes punched the ball before heskey got there despite Andy Gray constantly going on about Heskey getting the ball first.
One of the worst refs I've seen for a while, however the non penalty was maybe the only thing he actually got correct Eek

I've watched the penalty shout in super slow motion and I reckon Heskey touched the ball. Gomes got nothing on it.
Ah you have watched it in "super slow motion" and you reckon but you aren't 100% sure even after watching in your "super slow motion.
No penalty right decision, one of very few the ref got right today.

Sorry but you're wrong, its hard to see but Gomes definately punched it first, even the bbc live updates suggested so:
1740: Penalty shout for Aston Villa as Heurelho Gomes flies in at Emile Heskey inside the box by the touchline but referee Martin Atkinson is having none of it. Replays suggest the Brazilian just got a touch on the ball so I make that a good decision. It was mighty mighty close, though.
Anyway this disagreement proves that it wasnt a blatant clear cut pen as some have suggested
In your opinion and lets take out the "super slow lotion" part then. And lets just look at it at full speed, like the ref and only ONE chance to form an opinion.
And for want of repeating myself, if you are not 100% certain Gomes does NOT get a fist(or touch) on the ball first the you cannot award a penalty, which of course the ref didn't. So IMO he was correct in not doing so. Better??

If the ref isn't sure, he can't give the decision. This does not mean that it is the correct decision-just that he is not sure.
When I first saw it, I thought here we go again-it's not as though Gomes hasn't clattered someone for no good reason before.
