Outs:

Boateng - 4million
Gunter - 2 million
Zokora - 8million
Bent - 12+miillion
Chimbonda - 2million

Ins:
Naughton/walker - 8million
Bassong - 8million
Crouch - 9million

*Please correct if i have any of the fees wrong*

So this summer we have brought in 28million through sales and have shelled out 25million on new players!

I remember reading from someone on here a few weeks back who insisted that we had to break even this window and that if we were to buy, we would have to sell to match it.

If this is the case, we only have 3m to spend so therefore Sissoko/Sandro are both out of the window unless we sell another player?

What do people think? I personally think the money is there for the players we need!

Zokora was 8.5m iirc. Gunter was 1.75m.

Bent was 10m up front and 6.5m in add-ons. I think we'll see about 12-14m, since he's sure to score goals and there's little chance Sunderland will be relegated.

Depending on the wage situation, I imagine we'd have to sell one more to bring in Sandro/Sissoko - apparently either of them would be 14m+.

The money is there to spend I'm sure. In the greater scheme of things if our net spend this window turns out to be around 15m that's not too bad.

I think the January window was the only one for a while where we dramatically spent without recouping most of the money. The press love to talk about how much we've spent but our net spend over the last five years or so really hasn't been that much.

I don't bother with these estimates as we publish our accounts every 6 and 12 months. I checked before the transfer window and we do actually have to sell before we can buy. I can't remember the exact figures, but looking over the last 5 years of accounts, I suspect we need to sell to a point that our net spend doesn't increase our debt by more than a few million, rather than only spend what we have recouped. So i think you are right that we can have a positive net spend, but I'd guess it would be less than half of £15 million.

Wasn't quite a large part of January's transfer funds covered by the sales of Berba and Keane? Is there anywhere where we can get the net spend for the last 3 years or so?

The transfer fees for Berba and Keane covered the summer window, so we made a slight profit last summer. We then spend about 40-45m in January, so I'd assume that, if we break even this summer, that's about 20-25m net for each season.

Transfermarkt.de lists the outgoing and incoming fees for each season, however they are in euros and difficult to convert to present-day rates because they converted the fees back when the transfers happened (so different rates). So it's rather approximate.

THFC6061 is keeping tabs on the transfer fees of all our current players, and also has an ongoing chart for our summer transfers:

What's annoying is that the press will still bang on how we've spent £30m this year.

You look over a 5 years period or so and see by what amount we tend to increase debt. We wont suddenly increase our debts by say 20% if we've been increasing at a much lower rate than that in previous years.

According to the Telegraph, we've been the 4th highest net spenders in the last four years:

Tbf, two 5th-placed finishes and a League Cup are still better than what Villa and Sunderland have done. We also have a more valuable squad atm than either of them.

The fact arsenal have made a profit in the last 5 years, and are still way ahead of us, is remarkable.

Having one manager who spends the club's money like it's coming out of his own pocket helps.
