I dont know if the PL would grant an exception to use more than 1 stadium for home games so I'd imagine if there is a run over, the options are to just play a bunch of away games to start the season and move in around say October, if they dont think it'll take long to finish, or stay at Wembley for a 2nd season.

They wouldn't, the Chief Executive Peter Scudamore has previously said they wouldn't and that it would not be fair to other sides. It would be a logistical nightmare as well, then there is the Police who have to plan out a season and need to know what they will be required for. There is a lot more to sort out and get permission for than just a football game.

The question is, are the lower seats now a kind of temporary structure that is brought forward to cover the running track? There was I understand going to be a gap behind the lower structure and the upper which would then be covered. The picture you see here could have the seats in their 'set back' position needed for the games later this summer and then be brought forward again for the start of the football season? This doesn't of course help those fans in the upper tier but might explain the image. If we can manage this by having pitches on top of each other then surely they can do this with their seating relatively easily.

*Edit - will probably have fans 'painted' onto the filler structure to make the ground appear even fuller!!

Tha pic is with the seats retracted; it is in 'athletics mode'. In football mode, temporary seats are erected closer to the pitch. The majority of the seats don't actually move forward (I believe there are a few in the corners that do) but are actually erected. It takes a minimum of 7 days and £195,000 to convert the stadium into football mode.

With the seats closer to the pitch, there will be a 13 meters gap between the upper tier and the temporary lower tier. On the east stand this will be filled in by 'clip in seats' giving the effect of 1 single tier. On the other sides you will walk across a bridge.

The views from the lower tier will be acceptable, the view from the upper tier will be appalling (and actually outside the UEFA permitted distances, hence why they weren't using some seats). What the atmosphere will be like with a 13 meters gap between stands is yet to be seen. However, they are doing exactly the right thing; selling the tickets very cheaply. £99 for a child's season ticket in some areas!

i'm prob totally wrong but i thought they are having retractable seating over the track when they are playing?/

looking at the picture again, it would be interesting how they could put retractable seating in, as the front row of seats look pretty ground level, meaning just 1 row in front will cause those sitting behind a restricted view

The interesting question to this then is I wonder why have the seats got the hammers on them if in 'athletics' mode if they will be covered? Not disputing your info at all by the way (y)

Looking at the pic, the motif on the seats is in the east stand. I believe some of these sections will be used further forward and seats clipped in the gap behind. West Ham have been allowed to keep a lot of their branding, even when the stadium is used for athletics (the wrap, club shop, West Ham sign on top of the stadium etc).

I don't know anything that isn't in the public realm, by the way. I just quite like following projects on SSC. The Stadium has already been used in football mode during the RWC. People who attended said there was a good atmosphere in the ground but I guess we will just have to wait and see. Personally, I wouldn't like sitting in temporary seating every week and having to walk a cross a gantry to get to the stand; it just wouldn't feel like a permanent home.

It's going to sound like the crèche I walk past every morning rather than a football stadium with all the kids screaming.

Crane 4 going up right now on camera 3!

They don't have much choice, either flog tickets cheaply or have a half empty stadium.

What's the capacity of the inner ring? I reckon that whatever it is that it's going to be about the average attendance once they've settled in there.
There is zero chance that outter ring ever gets filled. You can't see the screen or the pitch. Terrible.

Another prediction. They will apply in a few years time and be granted permission to redevelop the stadium. Who will pay is the golden question. I know that there are all sorts of legal ramifications but we will see.

They cant apply, The LLDC own the stadium they lease it. Unless the LLDC sells it to spam there is no way they will be allowed to redevelop it.

To be honest it's a pretty cool stadium, but it will make going to West Ham away an easier prospect in my opinion. Upton Park was hostile, close and tight and never a nice stadium for a lot of teams to go to I don't think. Thinking back I can't remember the last time we've actually played good flowing football at Upton Park, all our games there always seem to be scrappy, this may change that. Potentially anyway.

capacity of the inner ring...I'd say 6 inches width by 8 inches in length

It looks quite cool, the Olympic Stadium, but they're are going to have to work pretty hard to generate an atmosphere (particularly when it is inevitably half full) - it wont be a patch on Upton Park.

What happened to the idea of the bottom tier sliding in and out? Their stadium is basically half temporary and has to be deconstructed and rebuilt every time they change 'mode'. It's probably about as well built as a travelling fairground... and less exciting.
