That's true historically but does that stand up today? I don't think that stuff like women's rights in Saudi Arabia (or lack thereof) is comparable or the teachings about Jews in schools there or the lack of any democracy. One has to be pragmatic but I'd shy away from false equivalence, especially when you're comparing what goes on now to what happened during the British empire.

What about the more recent past then? The "well-intentioned" attempts to impose our ideas of democracy in the places mentioned? The extra-judicial murders carried out on behalf of HMG? How do you feel about the systemic racism, sexism, etc? The possibility that the power structures in place are not there to preserve democracy or keep us safe, but to maintain the status quo? Anyway, enough of all this. 2:2 is my prediction.
