Apparently (According to some journalist) Gallardo had some concerns over the Leeds job because he couldn’t speak English and therefor was worried about connecting with the team.
Can’t see he suddenly changing that to join us

Im more worried that this will also confirm Kane is off in the summer too. Who do we even replace him with? We couldnt not sign another forward and just go with Richarlison surely? We would either need another CF or a WF at least. Osimhen, Vlahovic, Kolo-Muani etc dont look doable and nobody else is up and coming.

I would love Kolo and even though he would be expensive, probably the most realistic of the three you’ve mentioned but still a £50+ million player. Kane is definitely off IMO.

Two most important questions here are..

1- do we see Conte turning it around this season? Were in terrible form and if as we all believe he is gone in a few months can we risk being passive. Before we know it we will be out of the top four race and both cups.

2- when is Paraticis appeal and can we see him being here post the appeal. That also has a huge impact on what is going to happen going forward.

We have Poch waiting , almost teasing Levy or maybe Chelsea with pics of London so I believe we have a replacement if we want but would Paratici want him, would a new DOF want him?

Would Poch be happy playing 3 at the back? Because from what I've seen of Porro he is no right back. Would he be happy working with a DOF? IF Paratici leaves after Conte and Poch comes in do we get someone who thinks along similar lines to Poch rather than rip everything up again.

I don't think we're that far off personnel wise. Add in a good centre half, actually two centre halves and a keeper and that gives a new coach more than enough to be comfortably in the conversation up the top of the table.

This could be a huge mess which is why I want the club to get ahead of it and make de

Thing is, in the future I would love to see Poch back. When he’s managed another real team, done well and grown tactically and we have moved on from the mess of the last few seasons and all the players he managed before have long gone. Then it wouldn’t be a nostalgia hire who we are turning to in desperation and for lack of a better idea. That would be how I want to see him return and that is the way we would maybe see success with him again.

But to bring him back now for me feels so intrinsically wrong and signifies the complete and utter lack of understanding for football those in control of our team have. It would be an appointment birthed from complete and utter desperation.

Now is the time for fresh ideas, fresh football, a fresh start. We need to look toward the future not yet again be stuck in the past. I love him like the rest of us so but now is not the time for the return of Poch. This to me just feels like yet again another completely illogical move from our club. As was Conte, as was Nuno and as was Jose.

The logical explanation has already cropped up quite a bit, if the club took one glance at Forums or social media then they would know a good percentage of fans want Poch back, and i suspect Levy will jump to cover up this shitshow, even at the detriment of it becoming another shitshow.
Actual plans and interesting football are for wimps, I like big shiny buildings and game changing cinemas.

I do agree with all that.

But, he grew with us last time and maybe he can again.

Maybe he has really reflected on his time and realised he did somethings not so well.

Not saying it'll work. Just thinking it through

I know nothing about Gallardo, what is he all about? Is he a bit like Bielsa?
I don't think anyone is like Bielsa personally.

Gallardo plays an attacking pass and move style in a team that sells it's best players every season, so is used to developing young players.

In defence, his teams press high up the pitch but not in a Klopp style gegenpress, they isolate the player with the ball, often by shepherding the players/ball wide, then 4 attacking players swarm the player with the ball, cutting off passing lanes in the process.

He is an up and coming manager, who has managed 2 teams across 9 seasons. In his 1st season, he won the Uruguayan league with Nacional, then moved to River Plate for 8 seasons, where he became their most successful manager ever.

Whilst he only won the league once and came 2nd 3 times (mainly due to the squad constantly being stripped of their best players), he won the Copa Libertadores (South American equivalent of the Champions league) twice and the Copa Sudamericana (Europa League equivalent) once. He also won 3 domestic cups and won the SA equivalent of the European Supercup all 3 times he was in it.

Just to show what a difficult job it is at River Plate, Diego Simeone won the league their and he was fired the very next season after winning just 1 of the 14 games he was in charge.

Here is my view:

Unless something has drastically changed, I assume Poch would be coming back and refuse to have a DoF.

Like last time, he’d de-prioritise the domestic cups and “concentrate” on the League and Europe.

He’s unlikely to be given a slew of new players and Id expect us to be lining up with Dier, Davies and possibly Sanchez next season.

We’d likely end up 6th/7th in the league under these circumstances.

Poch fans on SC will be working overtime to tell others that 6th/7th has been a “success” because the football has been “more enjoyable and with someone I feel a connection with”.

Anti-Poch fans on SC will be baying for blood screaming that we “haven’t improved”.

All the while, Levy will be working on expanding the property portfolio and focusing on bringing more concerts in.

I think Poch would last 2.5 seasons having been unable to produce anything discernibly successful because Levy will continue to not wholly and consistently back our managers to challenge for top honours.

……..and then we’ll do it all again….

Whoever we get will eventually be a disaster let's be honest. It's a poisoned chalice unless there's a takeover. Personally up for Poch just for some vibes. He might bring the love back.

It’s this a billion times over for me. The whole club needs a factory reset with a proper long term plan with fresh ideas. Not a nostalgia trip that works because it’s convenient. The quality of Poch isn’t the issue as he has shown. He might come back and it’s a fairytale. If he was a significant level above other options I might feel different. But it just doesn’t feel fresh for me yet because I still feel there’s still a trace of his first stint still at the club. That for me needs to be completely eradicated before he returns. And most of all it doesn’t strike me as a step forward into a new era with a concrete plan to create success. And that’s what this club needs.
We ain't getting a reset. We are getting more of levy & ENIC. There will be no new era, atleast poch has dealt with the clowns at board level before and may be able to navigate waters other managers won't. I genuinely think there is NO manager out there who can succeed here under our current board.

Can’t agree with you more. I always tried to watch as many River games as I could, which was not a huge amount because of the time difference and having to normally find a stream, but I still watched a decent number over the years because of how entertaining his/their football was. Really feel he’d be the absolute perfect fit for us not just tactically but in regards to youth and our budget. I’d be disappointed if we passed on him for Poch tbh.
This….absolutely this.
It seems like when we try to act like one of the ‘big boys’ we get it wrong.
When we spend big on transfers, it often doesn’t work. When we hire managers who ‘always’ win, it doesn’t seem to work (there are reasons for both of these).
Where we have thrived, is buying talent/managers who are hungry to succeed.
We’re a rare breed. We don’t have the success we deserve, but all still crave doing it the right way and playing entertaining football.
The ‘playing defensively and winning’ hasn’t worked for the last two managers, so why not go back to what we seem to do best?
I think Gaallardo could be the answer.

Doesn't matter who the next manager is.

I've never been this pessimistic about the future of our club.

The issue is at the top! Several of us have tried to tell you all on so many occasions and some still struggle to see the real issue.

We have no plan! We won't change the way we operate, so we will continue to fall short and actually fall even further behind due to other clubs now willing to spend far more than us.

I honestly couldn't care less who the next manager is because in 18 months, we will be having the same discussion again.

I have always been a supporter of Conte staying, but it really doesn't matter anymore because he isn't going to get the backing he needs. So if he stays, with the squad he has, we will continue to see the turgid football we've seen since his appointment.

When he goes, he will be replaced by a project manager who will get us playing more attractive football. The fans will be happy but then the same issues will arise, fan unrest will grow and Levy will sack that manager and repeat.

The only way out of this cycle is if we are subject to a takeover and Levy gets out of the club.
