I don’t get this logic, if you can accept a manager from the SPL, why not a player that has succeeded in the same league?

This thread is on some high level copium.
VVD, Robertson, Tierney, Wanyama and Fraser Forster give lie to the 'not from Scotland' thing, admittedly that kind of quality isn't rife but that shouldn't mean we should totally exclude the possibility.

Given that they and Stellar are the biggest agencies in the country, working with the most elite players, it's really not surprising at all that we have/have had a high proportion of players represented by them. The idea that they have undue influence is something I hear a lot from other agencies who are put out that they don't have the same level of relationship. Its hardly like DL refuses to work with anyone else though.

yeah I’m sure there’s pros and cons to the relationship. We need an experienced DOF in though for sure who can handle all this. I don’t trust the current set up to.

I think in the dim and distant past a relationship with an agent was seen as a bad thing. Especially if they were close to a manager as there was a worry the manager might be getting brown paper bags for doing the deals. Not saying he did at all, but redknapp used to get a percentage of the transfer fee if the player was sold on for more than he was bought by a club. Levy wouldn’t agree to this arrangement when he joined us though.

No fair enough, I wasn't clear – I don't much fancy replacing Dier with CCV or Lloris with Hart.

I feel all these links to players of Celtic are just lazy journalism. When Slot was joining we also wanted his number 10!!!

Now if the new manager wants him, everyone has be saying we should back the manager so I don't see the problem

He should be given those 2 seasons even if we finish 10th or so in his first season. However, what I fear is a horror start over the first dozen games or so. We all know he will be afforded as much time as anyone managing a big club will get in that situation, I.e none.

Next season should be a free hit. I guess we should be saying conference league football as a minimum but I think he should be given the following season even if he doesn’t achieve that goal. We’d have to be seeing some positive signs of improvement, though, and he’d obviously have to start delivering the following season and looking like he can at least get us competing with the top 4. It’s a big ask for someone so inexperienced in top flight fotball, I still can’t quite believe we’re going for someone like this but it is what it is, I hope he’s got the charisma and know how to do the job but I won’t lie, I massively worry about a scenario where we’re only picking up 2-3 wins in our first 10 games and the pressures on him big time.

The other thing that slightly annoys me is people saying “I can’t wait to see attacking football again” you have no idea if we’ll play attacking football or not or whether it’ll translate to this level. More importantly, none of you ***** care about attacking football at all really as we could be playing some vintage swashbuckling shit and I can fucking guarantee you if it looks like we’re teetering around the relegation zone after 15 games you won’t give a monkeys about attacking football, you’ll want results and you’ll want him gone.

If I had to guess I’d say he’ll get us to arohnd where we finished this year but maybe a bit lower which will be ok with me if I see some good signs of improvement but can’t say I’m pumped about going into next season but think we should start lowering our expectations.

The biggest irony will be that lots of players saying “we need to give this manager time, it’s a shit show of a squad to get sorted and can’t be done over just one window” will be the same ones calling for his head if we don’t start well.

Ange, Enrique, Naglesmann, Slot, Poch… regardless of who it is, we’ve moaned all season about what they are stepping in to, any and all would deserve the exact same thing, and that a decent length of time to work with it all and start remoulding it all, that isn’t going to happen over the first transfer window and ten games.

Alright, I haven't read all of the previous 1500 odd pages, but I have read enough to gauge that Ange is probably not the top choice for everyone.

I moved to Brisbane in 2005 and watched the Brisbane Roar win back to back championships while he was manager. Now the level of football in the A-league was probably at a similar level of quality as League 1 back then (probably not much better now).
Ange had quite an effect on the club and I believe actually raised the standard in that league, crowds were up and due to the way the league works where you have a league winner and then play off's to win the actual championship, it meant both times they won the final they played at home to 52K crowds for both finals. The team didn't have the best players in the league, but he put belief into them, which got them over the line. it was also pretty entertaining football, the bloke has something about him.
If he does come and to me, it's still an if, he will want control over players that not only come in but also ones that are moved on, I think if he doesn't get that if we turn us down.
I personally think if he does get what he wants and agrees to sign, supporters will be pleasantly surprised.
With his perceived lack of experience. His winning the Asian cup with Australia is the equivalent of a manager winning the Euros with a country like Switzerland, It shouldn't be. underestimated.
Anyway, whoever gets the job, I just want a team that is allowed to play football, staying up to stupid o'clock to lose 3-1 at home to Brentford can really ruin your Sunday.

I get that alot of people are underwhelmed by Ange, I am too to a degree, but some of the posts on here are straight up embarrassing. He's not even been appointed yet, nor managed a single Tottenham match and he's still being thrown under the bus for things he hasn't done. People saying they won't support him until he wins X amount of games etc. How fucking entitled are you?

Early doors we were linked with Tuchel then Nagelsmann. Apart from a league cup in 2008 and reaching a champions league final, what position are we in to demand the worlds best managers other than revenue and the stadium? I'm not saying we shouldn't but the sheer dismissiveness of "unworthy" managers like Ange or even Slot in the early links puts some of you lot in the same bracket as the "entitled" Liverpool/Man Utd/Arsenal fans we all like the take the piss out off in the last 10 years, and guess what, they've all won alot more than us recently..

If we get Ange, i'll back him to the high heavens and hope he gets a reaction from whatever squad he manages to build, i'm very Levy out, but until Levy is out, we still need to back whoever comes in, regardless of his name, CV or age, until they either prove us wrong or right.

Some of you lot need a slap upside the head.
What do you expect? The trend is there for everyone to see. We are on a downward trajectory and have massive issues that can’t be fixed overnight.
If some fans are not allowed to be realistic, some of you are equally embarrassing by sugarcoating everything.
I am completely apathetic about this appointment and that says it all. But I will say this: this is a huge risk.

Just need someone who doesn't keep playing Dier at this point. Give the guy a proper CB*

*not from the SPL
Virgil van Dijk played at Celtic for a couple seasons. You never know, sometimes quality players including CBs come through the SPL. Wanyama did well for us too.

Ultimately I don't care where Ange spots talent, SPL or Asia whatever, there can be some rough diamonds out there looking to make the step up.

I see people mentioning caa base being involved a bit with spurs, so I had a look at their client list, and the links make interesting reading. We have 3 of their top 7 players. I'd be happy if we got a couple more.

Considering Poch, JN and Slot were all there for the taking if the higher ups compromised one way or the other then ending up with Ange leaves me underwhelmed.

He'll get my full support but fingers crossed he turns out to be a Poch/Jol style appointment rather than a Nuno one.

I just want to say even though my preference is Amorim, I will give Ange all my support and backing if he gets the role.
This is it really isn't it? Many might feel underwhelmed, but I think the massive majority will give him their full support, in particular if they can see improvement in the patterns of play and effort from the players.

We want to feel engaged as fans. That doesn't have to mean gung ho attacking football, but we do want to see attacking ideas, player commitment, new formations and tactics etc.

We've been stuck in a narrow rut for too long, with a very specific ideology being placed on the players who haven't really responded - or certainly not with any consistency.

If this guy can bring some fresh ideas and get the fans onside, great. Fingers crossed.
