quotes from Levy via thesun.co.uk
"Unfortunately it’s a function of modern day finance there will have to be naming rights on the stadium.

“It’s going to be a new stadium so it won’t be White Hart Lane. If we want things to progress, things have to change.”

What do you think guys? Im quite upset but I understand its the only way forward. Lpool are trying to do it without naming rights and are struggling big time.

What Im worried about is what if we have a Lehmann Brothers here! Some company finances the stadium and our shirt sponsor for X years. But due to credit crunch, recession etc, they go bust and we are stuck like Wet Spam?

But im sure Levy et al aren't stupid and we wil get someone like Santander who have protected themselve against the crnch and are actually benefitting from it!

I hadn't thought about that, it's a good point.

I'm very sad that we'll have to ditch over a century of history to sell out our new ground to some corporate entity, I absolutely hate that sort of thing, but realistically there's no other way to get enough finance.

it has to be "something" lane in my eyes, otherwise it ruins all our chants and makes younger fans forget the glory days/nights had down the lane

I am gutted. I'd love for Levy to disclose the figures involved here (how much revenue is expected from naming rights), to prove it is unavoidable, but I know he won't. I suspect there are other options, but this is the easiest, safest and most profitible. This would protect our transfer budget, which is admirable, but i'd still want proof renaming the stadium is unavoidable.

If the Al Qaeda naming rights deal is anything to go by, the revenue seems a bit of a lean side.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emirates_Stadium#Name

The total deal is £100m with stadium naming rights for 15 years, and shirt rights for 8 years. Going by the stadium alone, the revenue is £6.6m a year, with 8 years free shirt sponsorship. Or collectively £100m / (15 + 8) = £4.3m a year. For a club like ours, seems a bit low to me.

It'll be the Sainsbury Stadium, Budgens Bowl or something equally shit.

£100m pays for a lot of brickies though ...
