Come to think of it I’ve never said I’m going down the lane or I’m going to White Hart Lane, I only ever say I’m going down the Spurs; where I come from and with roots in the East End going down the lane has another meaning altogether.
Nevertheless I’m not sure White Hart Lane was ever really meant to be the “official” name it just grew and so got adopted by the club.
To be honest if we go back to the early days that area was probably referred to as WHL much like other areas in Tottenham like High Cross or Seven Sisters or West Green (await response from SS57:)) and so it is clearly still at or in White Hart Lane.
Maybe Couch's idea of "Sponsor at WHL" fits the bill.

Over on sky scraper city, they reckon the architechts could be MAKE, rather than HOK.

Would increase the likelihood that we will not just get the standard bowl type structure that HOK specialise in.

It wasn't. The original idea was to call the ground Gilpin Park, but for reasons lost in the mists of time the club never actually got around to doing it and so White Hart Lane was gradually adopted by the fans, presumably because of the railway station.

As for sponsors, according to my friend on the council the redevelopment of the existing ground is going to incorporate a big new Sainsbury's, and the club have got some sort of deal with them to develop the land the current supermarket occupies for housing.

A booklet produced by the Tottenham Herald provides some interesting reading.

You'll see the reference to naming the "new" ground in final paragraph on the first page and the first paragraph in the second.

If anyone wants to read the whole of this booklet, which I found fascinating. here's the link:

Doesn't surprise me once we move across the road it's probably an ideal site for a supermarket, can we use their car park on match days?:)

We need a very rich spurs fan, with a couple of million spare, who fancies leaving a bit of a legacy and keeping the existing stadium name. Maybe even naming one of the stands after themselves.

... ill get buying the euro millions tickets now!

I think a new name for a new stadium makes sense, we've played at Northumberland Park, we've played at White Hart Lane. When the new place is built it won't actually be White Hart Lane, so why not call it something different?
