Agreed but Utd are the richest club on earth and he was bought to be first choice.

If they can get it, good on them.

We can already do that by playing Son down the middle and putting either Bergwijn or Sessegnon on the left. I’d wager based on Son’s performances in Kanes absence and the very good start Bergwijn has made that whoever we sign, that’ll still be plan A when Kane doesn’t play unless whoever we sign makes an unexpectedly great early impression.

This signing is to come off the bench most matches (resting Kane when we’re winning, partnering him when we need a goal) and to start in place of him in cup matches v weaker opposition.

Agree on Son likely being first choice when Kane is injured but that doesn't help with fixture congestion. I think most of us were hoping the likes of Son and Kane wouldn't even be travelling to the likes of Plovdiv and the new ST would be instead. Maybe Lamela will play as a false 9 if he hasn't be sold by then.

The frustrating thing is we wrapped up 2 of the three big holes in the squad nice and early, it's a shame we don't seem like adding a striker before the season starts. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.

I wasn't suggesting that we should have offered £28million with add on's that may take the figure up to £33 million. I was simply saying that no-one can make a quick judgement saying this will or or won't represent value for money, which from reading some of the comments made, as soon as it became apparent that he was not going to us, some had said in quick judgement.

I simply felt that some were displaying a Spurs bias and coming to a judgement that because we wouldn't or couldn't pay it, the he must be a waste of money because only Villa are offering it, and a similar sentiment was being expressed when Newcastle got their deal over the line for Callum Wilson.

I was simply saying, let's all take our Spurs bias out of the equation and keep an open mind as to whether or not these buys will represent good money for Villa and Newcastle. The proof will be in the pudding, so let's wait and see.

The bottom line is that another striker is required, and we must offer something. If it's around the £15-20m mark we need to be realistic, but being realistic doesn't mean criticising other teams because they've paid a little more when we don't know what will happen.

We and Levy can all moan about the market but it is what it is, we simply have to move, the worst of all outcomes will be ending up empty handed. If £15-20m is all we have we've no choice but to take a punt on someone, it will be downright bordering on negligent if the board simply say, yet again for the umpteeth window, well we tried again but weren't prepared to take a risk on buying a striker.
I really hope we don't miss out on a 'good' striker, and end up with a Llorente, for the sake of £5m

Can't see villa surviving but looking forward to seeing how he gets on in the Premier league.

I swear the spurs fans on twitter drink bath water as their only meal or something. They're genuinely a different breed of moron.

I don’t wanna go on this huge scouting description of Daka, but he’s basically the Zambian Timo Werner but more clinical. He’s rapid, can play up top or out wide, and his conversion rate is amongst the best in Europe. He works so so hard for the team as well. Only difference is the quality of league, but I’d put money on him being worth 50 odd mil at least if he spent a year at Leipzig. I am a HUGE fan of this player. He’d be more than a backup after a short while I’m sure. He’s fantastic. I’m on my knees Levy.

He is quality, him and Donyell Malen from PSV are going to be huge and snapped up by a big European club soon.

I accept that, but there were probably a lot of people in January thinking along similar lines, 'we'll get one in the end, it's all part of the process, no way we leave ourselves short' and we all know how that turned out.

If you have a shortlist of players that aren't available at your valuation then it's not a very useful shortlist.

Of course.

But you are basing your concerns on what happened in the past and seem to be deliberately ignoring all the evidence of this transfer window thus far - namely, that we have already strengthened in three key positions and that every itk worth paying attention to has repeatedly said that things are being done very differently now and that Levy and Mourinho have an excellent understanding of what is required from each of them.

It seems that you and others are determined to carry on fighting old battles. I’m not sure why.

Fannying around definition: Targeting Wilson, then Deeney, then WIlson, then Ings, then King, then Watkins, then Nunez, then Watkins, then an unknown such as Rafael Leoa??, then Watkins, and finally signing Deeney on deadline day...?

The rest of our business so far, I agree, has been sound, but when it comes to buying a striker, we are fannying around according to the ITK we've received/news outlets.

I appreciate Trix trying to educate us about how we conduct our business - just have to be patient I guess.

Whooaahh there!!

Step back a second and take time to acknowledge that what WE hear from the media and itk is not the same thing as what LEVY is actually doing.

It’s well worth rereading Trix’s post on the matter from earlier this afternoon.

Without looking in the thread (and going by some reactions on Twitter), is it safe to assume there's an awful lot of bed-wetting and shitting of the bed-clothes so it goes through to the actual mattress through a fitted sheet and a mattress topper about not signing a Championship striker for what could be over £30m?

If so. Please stop. As you literally can't clean shit off a mattress.

SiGn A fUcKiNg StRiKeR mob out in full?

Lovely to see you boys.

I mean, they're not wrong though, are they? We've had no backup striker for 12+ months and we're showing no signs that one is close, even with 9 games in 3 weeks coming up.

I'm not defending the price of Watkins, nor am I saying we should've got him, but it's pretty inexcusable that we don't have a backup striker in general.
