Maybe, just maybe, he's keeping our powder dry until later in the season. We saw last year that we started like a steam train, then ran out of puff towards the end. Maybe he's managing our fitness levels, ready to peak from february onwards. Keep it nice and tight, win a few, draw a few, keep us interested around 4-6th place, then come Feb, bang, we go all out every game.

That's what i like to think anyway.

Personally I feel that Eriksen has to take responsibility for our attack. I know he's still quite young, but he's been around for ages now. I think he's as talented as players like Berba and Modric, but is he having that level of impact? Not for me. Eriksen should be our Ozil getting 20 assists a season, is he ever going to actually step up? If not, we need to sign a player as good as Eriksen who will actually perform at the level Eriksen should be.

Tactics wise, one thing I'm not too keen on is that having seen Poch for a few seasons now it looks like what we are working towards is something like the original Mourinho's Chelsea. We've become a dirty team, just look at the fouls table. We're well coached in the art of the tactical foul. Much like that team we are an organised unit, like a machine, but not a very exciting one to watch.

Our possession stats are similar to Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and City, but they are all in the bottom 5 for fouls committed. Us and United are 3rd and 2nd, because we just kick people all day. Watford are only just top but they average around 45% possession compared to our 55%!

I think there's a good case that our defense has looked a shambles in the CL because refs are much stricter in Europe, so we can't play our preferred fouling game and teams just stroll right through us.

Is it possible Wanyama (who's been great) isn't the problem but it's the guy playing next to him?
Aside from Arsenal away I think Dembele has been a shadow of last season. His form last season was absolutely key to how we played.

That mixed with Eriksen and Deles dreadful seasons so far is what our problem is (plus we simply don't look as energetic as we did last year).

For me firstly the front four have been poor this season, in their lack of inability to finish the few given the chances they have had, The lack of pressing has also been a problem, as last season this created a lot of mistakes which we where able to feed off. Also as has been mentioned , there has been a lack of movement in our offensive play. Too often we see one of the four with the ball on the edge of the box with no options cause they are all static in front of of a wall of defenders so no options. And finally we are too slow to transition from defence to attack, which allows teams all the time in the world to set up defensively. Seems everyone wants too many touches on the ball and we tend to play the ball back or side to side.

Gotta hand it to the Argentinian stinker. Just when every single football team under the sun knew exactly how to stop his shite-shite-shite formation, he goes ahead and conjures up a narrow, smooth, and tight formation. Hull had obviously set up to stop Rose and Walker far out wide (duh, who wouldn't), and BAM! we just force our way down the middle like a steam train hitting a picket fence.
Our very best performances this season have without exception been everything BUT the trademark Pochettino system, and it's about time to go steady with the alternative systems we've deployed successfully.

The most important thing last night was we won and kept a bit of pressure on the top four, even though we are not playing as well as last season imo but you can't argue with the result.

I think the key is to have the other managers wondering what they are going to face and to have the individuals to be able to tweak in game as necessary.

We are definitely not just a one trick pony anymore and while I can still forsee some teething problems for the most part I think we are setup well for the second half of the season tactics wise.

Well, that depends. If we keep on using the predictable "football system for dummies" in a majority of the matches we are not set up well. If we continue with sexy football and scrap the main go to system, then you might be right.

Our defensive 5 are the base of our success. Midfield needs tweaking as a trio of Son, Eriksen and Alli are too flakey and inconsistent, Wanyama is strong but offers fuck all in a creative sense. Kane is far too often isolated and has no runners or few options. Dembele could be a world beater if he could remain fit for any period of time.
