Paulinho signed for Tottenham and will not defend over Corinthians. - I thought I read that right, it's past tense - if this agent guy is to be belidved, he's signed for us... "defend over" just means play for...

Assinou is in the past perfect tense, which would literally mean 'has signed'. So yeah, it's pretty much saying it's a done deal.

Seems like this is pretty much done deal now. My thought is that for us, Paulinho will be the most advanced player in our midfield 3, which would be a bit further forward than he plays for the Brazilian national team (in the pivot of a 4-2-3-1), so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Corinthians and where he plays in that team/what formation they use?

Just based on what I've seen from AVB so far he seems to like the explosive box to box player to be the most advanced in midfield (Ramires and Fredy Guarin for instance), so I'm guessing that's what Paulinho would do for us. I would just wonder what the plan for Dembele would be then? Last season I sort of felt like AVB was grooming him into a different kind of player, idk maybe he can become the heartbeat of the team in the way Modric was. I think in Dembele I see the potential to become a player sort of like Schweinsteiger, maybe he won't reach that level but I don't think it's beyond him to improve his passing and vision which is all he really needs to get to that level.

I think we would need to add creative quality to the front 3, signing Villa would be a great start anyway as he is so much more than just a lethal finisher. I'd love us to sign Bernard and Aubameyang as well, which would probably be another 25-30 million for both of them. But I'm liking the way our midfield is looking for next season. Really excited in fact.

I think Sandro would act as the central player with Dembele play to the left and Paulinho to the right. All 3 are of the physical and athletic variety, so they could fluidly swap places without there being a drop in performance. So if Sandro decides to go rampaging up the field that void will be filled without us losing any defensive capabilities.

Can we talk about how exciting it is that we're going to spend £17m on a player?

All I know is that Snarf has provided some pretty detailed accounts of how Paulinho plays in a more advanced role for Corinthians, and that the Brazil role is something of a compromise.

This is what I like the idea of, as it looks like we are working towards putting together a similar model of the front 3 being able to swap around at will as well. This would be a great way of pulling opposition players out of position and freeing up space for passes, runs etc. looking forward to next season already

This is what excites me about the move, the potential of our midfield trio being so ridiculously good at physically dominating the middle of the field, that teams will have to overload CM even more than normal in hopes of gaining possession that it allows our front 3 to run riot.

I think in the start it will be Paulinho and Dembele, Need to remember that Sandro has been out for a long time and i dont think he will be 100% until the season starts, or is he ? maby 4-2-3-1 with Paulinho-Dembele and holtby infront at the start and then try to mix it up in the hard away games with sandro.

The good thing is that Dembele/Paulinho will have 2, shall we say, easier opponents before we play Arsenal. Hopefully between preseason and a couple of EPL matches they will be clicking.

That's interesting - yeah just from what I've seen during the Confeds Cup, that makes sense. Other than the fact that he's very good defensively I think he is limited by the holding role. Still scored twice mind you but I think Paulinho is a player better suited to being the most advanced midfielder, breaking forward into the penalty area, making runs that create space for other attackers, etc. I might be totally wrong though, only seen him a couple of times for Brazil.

It's probably going to take paulinho a while to settle in though as the South Americans usually do when they are new in the PL. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him being rotated for the first month or or 2 of the season

Great news that Paulinho seems closer and closer.

The burning question however, the thing we all want to know, what's eating us up inside is: What the fuck is a Snarfalicious?!

I feel like it's something from South Park. A sort of Man-Bear-Pig if you will, but involving a squirrel, a red panda, and possibly something delicious.

Snarf, I'm afraid I can't trust you until I know what you are. At the moment you're just some sort of incredibly clued-up and master-scout racoon-type-thingy.

Hm. It appears you're some sort of Thundercats fella. Your picture comes up third on Google images when I search Snarf. Poor effort.

P.S. What's is your satchel? It's scout reports isn't it?

No Daniel we can't! Just because you finally oiled the hinges of your wallet it doesn't mean that you can come on here and get all high and mighty and expect us to to get all excited!! I'm still trying to figure out why you spunked 16mil on a Bentley when I can get one here for 120K U.S! The fecker runs, performs, and is a head turner! Oh, and by the way, my missus pays $35 for a Brazilian. So, again NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO! Put your big girl panties on and deal with it!

Half asleep so this may be a daft question: how high above sea level is Corinthians' training ground/stadium?

He has done Brazilian pre-season and is now going to do ours.
Lots of Brazilian clubs are based at higher altitude than we are.
Will that mean he arrives super fit? The opposite of the usual "Well, he needs time to get his fitness" situation?
