In your defence, I think we were told that he was a Levy buy rather than AVB's choice - AVB was still holding out hope for Moutinho (bless, so naive!).

Yeah, ITK's messin with my head lol, hope people dont get me wrong, I think Dembele's a good player, I just dont think he's irreplaceable in the team.

that may well be true but you don't know that holtby was avb's choice either. considering he didn't play all that much once we did sign him, coupled with the fact he cost peanuts ... he could quite easily have been levy's choice rather than avb's.

If it's not complicated enough now knowing who signed who, wait until Baldini arrives lol

Essien and Lampard.

ok well i must've watched a diferent team then. to me makelele patrolled in front of the back four, essien hunted around the pitch winning the ball back and striding forward, whilst lampard was and is a box to box midfielder arriving late into the box and scoring a ton of goals. to me that's not massively dissimilar to the stylistic qualities that sandro, dembele and [on the basis of yesterday] paulinho possess.

Don't know a lot about Paulinho, does he start regularly for Brazil?
If he does i'll be surprised if he risks a move this year with the world cup coming up.

Doesn't always start but it looks like Scolari is warming to him for a starting role.

Not sure about a move abroad being a risk. A lot of Brazilians are playing abroad and joining us would mean he'd be moving to the biggest league in the world. He'd be a starter for us and would get a lot of exposure.

Would also help immensely if he partnered his International Midfield partner at a club level.

Well it could be beneficial for both players. If Sandro and him create a great partnership Scolari will have to take notice.

Judging off Sandro's season prior to his injury, he's Brazil's best DM at this point. So, if Paulinho hooks up with him here, they could essentially play together year-round and form a pretty formidable duo for a long time, given they are close in age.

Exactly, not only does it benefit us, but it benefits Brazil for the World Cup too. The only losers in this situation is anyone who plays us or Brazil.

I think a signing of this magnitude would really show our intentions to Bale and the league as a team to be feared if you ask me. Looks like a very, very good player who might like to have Sandro covering for him and Bale and hopefully a new striker to look for in front of him.

Would much rather drop 20 million on him then on Guarin, and I like Guarin.

I think AVB may also recognize that our midfield, when Sandro and Dembele were on the pitch together, really outclassed the majority of the EPL. If we can add a guy like Paulinho, we pretty much ensure that we will have a strong midfield in just about every match.

It's an expensive signing, but it'd be one that solidifies our squad and our midfield, something that was incredibly valuable early on in the season when our attack looked a bit toothless. Incorporate Paulinho, keep Dembele/Sandro fresh, and build up the attacking front and we could have quite the powerful squad that is capable of scoring goals from defenders and midfielders along with our attacking front.
