Doesn't always start but it looks like Scolari is warming to him for a starting role.

Not sure about a move abroad being a risk. A lot of Brazilians are playing abroad and joining us would mean he'd be moving to the biggest league in the world. He'd be a starter for us and would get a lot of exposure.

Yeah i hope he does come, just thinking from his point of view.
It took a while for Sandro to settle.

Corinthians midfielder Paulinho has rubbished reports claiming his agent is in England to discuss a summer switch.

The Brazil international concedes that his representative Giuliano Bertolucci has travelled to Europe to speak with Premier League clubs, but insists he is not the subject of those talks.

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from his homeland, with Tottenham Hotspur said to be leading the chase for his signature.

Paulinho is, however, happy in his homeland and has no desire to try his luck elsewhere any time soon.

He told Terra on Bertolucci's visit to England: "He is not negotiating. Giuliano has many clients. I am not the only one.

"He is in England, admittedly, but he works for many players.

"They say that Giuliano is working for me to leave Corinthians, but that is not the case.

"He has his work with other players and I don't understand why people persist with this story."

I think AVB may also recognize that our midfield, when Sandro and Dembele were on the pitch together, really outclassed the majority of the EPL. If we can add a guy like Paulinho, we pretty much ensure that we will have a strong midfield in just about every match.

It's an expensive signing, but it'd be one that solidifies our squad and our midfield, something that was incredibly valuable early on in the season when our attack looked a bit toothless. Incorporate Paulinho, keep Dembele/Sandro fresh, and build up the attacking front and we could have quite the powerful squad that is capable of scoring goals from defenders and midfielders along with our attacking front.

Complete agreement and if we sell Parker and Huddlestone we might could get half of what we pay for Paulinho, which for me would be excellent business and if you think about the wages both Parker and Huddlestone would probably make more combined than Paulinho so the deal might look better and better to someone like Levy who is always thinking of the bottom line and the future.

You make this signing and pick up Leandro or another striker in that range, 15-20 million we are set for next year if you ask me. The squad is fairly settled, has good depth and we can incorporate our youth if needed because of injuries. Just think, two of our best players did not play much last year with Sandro and Kaboul not playing a whole lot. That is like gaining two signings if you ask me so lets just go big and bring in two quality players in positions we could use help in.

Simple. Except we said the same thing about mata last year.

Mata was already a very well established player in the Spanish League if I am not mistaken. Paulinho doing it for Corinthians seems a bit different to me. Besides, Paulinho should be able to see there just won't be enough games for him to make a real impact at Chelsea or at another free spending team like Man City where midfield spots are very very hard to come by. At Spurs he would more than likely get 40+ games and if good enough make a real impact and maybe just maybe solidify his spot in the national team instead of being a high priced bench player like someone like Marco Marin is.

Granted you might be right that he might be just a little bit above our stature as a world renown club but I think the other big clubs have made their moves for their main targets and Paulinho would want to keep his name out in the public eye and get a pay raise to do it. I would be worried over the French clubs more than the other English clubs if I am being honest. PSG and Monaco have mucho dinero to spend and less world class talent to keep Paulinho out of the starting 11 if you ask me. Don't know enough about how much money the Italian clubs have to spend but would be surprised if we couldn't at least keep up or overpay and get our man.(if we want him of course)

Tbh this all seems to point to a change in formation to a 4-3-3( avb's preffered formation)

Paulinho sandro dembele wld be a damn good midfield trio....

I think Paulinho would fit the same role as Dembele only he doesn't panic when he gets in the final 3rd. We'd still be short of a passing maestro in the centre.

does anyone think that we realistically have a chance at getting both these Brazilian mids, or is it more likely one or the other ?

It really depends, I think. If Paulinho is attainable for around 16m, I could see us going for him with the offloading of possibly Parker/Huddlestone. We could essentially sell them for just around half his fee from their sales, and save money on wages given Hudd + Parker will be more than what Paulinho would get.

Bernard is tricky (I'm guessing this was who you were referring to). He could really get priced out if Mineiro are difficult in the deal. But, if they are okay with a substantial chunk up front, with payments over the next couple of years, then maybe it will work out.

I think we could afford them both, definitely. We're already saving a substantial amount of money in wages with Bentley/Gallas gone. If Hudd, Parker, Livermore, Dempsey (could be the one to go if Bernard and Siggy will be expected to play on the left in the 4-3-3), BAE, Gomes, and anyone else I'm forgetting are sold, we could raise quite a good amount of funds.

The problem will become will we have enough money, after these two, to get a striker that will truly put our attack over the top?

Thats it really

We need 2 strikers more than we need 2 mids but I guess we need to give AVB a chance to build what he wants to build.

We definitely need 1 striker but if you gave me the option of having 2 strikers or 2 midfielders, I'd probably take the 2 mids. Not sure Paulinho would be one though. He's excellent but a Dembele upgrade isn't exactly a priority.

I'd prefer one striker and one CM myself - we will be cruelly short if Defoe or Ade get injured

I might be wrong but don't Bernard and Paulinho have the same agent?

That sounds like our interest was short lived if true.

That source is probably just quoting Gazetta who is quoting the shaktar chairman whose statement has already been denied. ;)

would be surprised with that if true also. not massively out of left field but considering how public the previous pieces of info have been, would have thought any milan interest (just like porto) would have been made public by now.
