that team is superb, bar the fullbacks who are just decent!

Even better when you consider the provisional subs bench for that team would be something like:

Friedel, Dawson, Holtby, Townsend, Adebayor, Sigurdsson, Dempsey

With Caulker, Rose, Carroll, Defoe and co waiting in the wings.

It seems a shame we actually have to have the season and watch players get injured/suspended as the dreamworld of us having a fully available team/squad makes us bloody brilliant. ;)

I think we'd keep him this season at least (barring a hefty bid), even if he probably won't start as much, but I'd say his long term future as a Spurs player isn't good if we shift to 4-3-3

Yeah, hopefully not, but we should be honest that if he ever feels he isn't "first choice" (whatever that means, these days - let's face it, Scotty Parker played more games than Sandro last season but would have to be deluded to think himself first choice), then Aaron would surely move on. He's just too impactful a player. His ego might keep him with us for a while. And I think our fans are quick to write him off, given AVB loves vertical movement and Lennon is so good at that... but, yeah, I think for example a 12m bid from someone like West Ham or Stoke or Villa would be accepted.

I dont think we will play 433 every game, 4231 with Lennon wide right will still be effective
against a lot of teams.

i think it'd take more than 12m and from a side better than that lot but i agree with the rest. i just don't think lennon fits into a 433, especially with bale looking likely to start from the right more often giving him more openings to shoot/score. having played as a 442 winger his entire career i'm not sure he could make the change to "wide forward" or whatever you want to call it, his goal at home to arsenal was the move of a wide forward so perhaps he does have it in him but we haven't seen that often enough.

i'd be surprised if we could drop this money on the likes of paulinho, bernard and villa without players leaving to part-fund it. lennon's the only disposable(?) high value asset we have so i wouldn't be shocked if that's an avenue we've explored.

Yeah, fair point. I was working on the assumption that we wouldn't sell to Liverpool and Everton have no money. Reunited with Jol at Fulham, maybe? 18m joint deal with T-Bag Huddlestone?

If we could essentially replace Lennon with a guy like PEA (Not necessarily PEA, but a versatile wide-forward) and really be near break-even on the dealings, I'd be all for it. It'd give us a better fit for the 4-3-3 and obviously the 4-2-3-1.

It's hard to justify keeping Lennon when it appears that, even if we do run the 4-2-3-1 a good bit, the future for this club could be the 4-3-3.

Interesting how all the press have this story as nearly done and yet nothing in the RO section from the ITK's.
In fact nothing in there for days now.

If it was the fees of Lennon + Dempsey we could get a player of real quality.. Falque/Sigurdsson as back up

With the deal now known about, and our intent to sign him clear, the ITK silence on this is just that, nothing to report until the Confed Cup has finished, hopefully reached a static point with just a medical and signature required..
