I think you guys need to take it back a notch. Way too doom and gloom.

For all we know, the quotes are real. They've been out for about 24 hours now and haven't been discredited by Paulinho.

Let's just hope Brazil loses tomorrow to expedite the transfer (unless he really does play with Corinthians until Mid July).

Hey I think the quotes mean we've definitely signed him!

Watching that vs Chelsea video again he reminds me of one player in particular, a player that always looked as if he was the best player on the pitch even if he wasn't contributing the key moments that day; Ballack.
Just striding around in central midfield keeping things moving, generally contributing solidly & making few mistakes but with the potential to explode into life with a strong run or shot or whatever.

He really could be a next level signing.

I don't want to be negative but that video of him against Chelsea does him no favours.
Loses possession a lot, passes back a lot like Parker. No Modric like passes, no Dembele like runs, and no Sandro like tackling.
I think we need a much more technical player to compliment Sandro and Dembele.
Some one to dictate the game, someone for Sandro to give the ball to in the knowledge he will do something positive with it.

I know Moutinho's ship has sailed but there are others. I'm thinking pjanic, or eriksen or Belhanda.

Hope I'm wrong and Paulinho's awesome if he comes, I'm just not sure he's what we need.

Just watched that video just now and to be fair what you said is an understatement, he looks like absolute shit in that video and doesn't look like an upgrade on anything. All passes were off target/intercepted. all shots were off target. Like you I hope I'm wrong and it's down to creative video editing.

I don't know if this has been covered already, any reckon this is true?

Ancelotti has also sanctioned a £20m bid for Corinthians and Brazil midfielder Paulinho, who was expected to join Tottenham.

Despite the fact that we know (or at least are consistently informed) that Paulinho has a £17m release clause, so that figure would literally be throwing £3m down a hole?

No. Paulinho is very good, but isn't going to be the top target for the new manager of one of the biggest 3 clubs in the world. He probably wouldn't even get a look in with a midfield that includes Modric, Ozil, and Xabi Alonso. Gareth Bale, on the other hand might very well be their top target, and stories like this promote an air of uncertainty around our club, just like the AVB PSG rumors did, that could make him less comfortable staying put. Smells like complete bollocks to me and I'd be surprised if Perez isn't behind it.

Aside from the fact that it would not be "literally" be throwing £3m down a hole, which would require an actual hole and £3m in cash, I don't think the release clause works quite like that. If there are two or more clubs that are willing to bid £17m or more, then I would think the club that offered more would be able to sign the player, as long as the player was able to agree personal terms with them.
