Have to say I'm not overly impressed with what I've seen of Paulinho, particularly at a record breaking transfer fee. He's alarmingly one footed, nothing special technically, his close control in particular seems quite poor. Added to the fact that his passing is obviously not one of his strong points I can't help but feel that we might get better value for money elsewhere.

Are you suggesting he could be the Brazilian Jenas..... Coz he's not!

imo and from what I have seen you couldnt be more wrong! He seems to be pretty comfortable in using his left foot, both passing and striking the ball.

We'll see, I'm pretty confident from what I've seen that he's all right foot. For a Brazilian midfielder his overall technique, with the exception of shooting, seems worryingly poor.

I haven't seem masses of Paulinho, but I can't say I have ever watched a match with him playing and being particularly concerned about his technique or an over-reliance on his right foot tbh. However, I can't honestly sit here and tell you that you are unequivocally wrong as I simply haven't watched enough of him to be that sure. What I will point out though, is that if those things were true I doubt he could keep Ramieres (who is a fantastic player) out of the Brazil team.

Interesting you picked Jenas out because in my opinion this guy is exactly what Jenas could (and should) have been. JJ = Gggrrrrrr! So frustrating.

Players with the ability to carry or pass and then run on for the return beyond the defence/midfield to score.

I think he is more of a Lampard style player than say a technical Modric/Moutinho who create lots but score little. His game is all about power, running with the ball and arriving late to score a number of goals from midfield, something which we desperately lacked last season. This also isnt to say he cant pass and open up defences because he does have that in his locker! He is also very strong in the air both attacking and defending, I really think he is perfect for us.

Is isnt just by chance that he is the preferred central mid for Brazil at the moment.

Looking forward to seeing him in action today. Really think he will be a huge signing.

But at the same time i do not want him to have a blinder just in case these slimey sharks start circling the player!!

Which is why he is suited for the English Premier league.

While it's not the best news in the world, I think it's encouraging that Corinthians believe the transfer is all but done and as a result are looking to convince him to hold off on moving to us.

I said yesterday it can be a good idea to let him stay to build a strong relationship with Corinthians, but in the end it's really up to Paulinho. If we tell him that's not okay, it might turn him off to a move. It'd take some careful wording to show that we would want him now and not after July 18th.

As long as he is signed up (Pre contract) and caveats built in for injury, anything to smooth things over and build goodwill is a positive. He is going to need to be given some time to settle in anyway.

I would be more than happy to let Paulinho stay for a couple of weeks and get him after the Sudamericana if that is what it took. He is well worth the wait and we would be set up for years to come with him in our team. We should also be selling Parker and maybe Huddlestone as well to recoup some funds and spend the rest on a top quality striker. Done and Done for the summer if we do that. No real areas of concern for me, maybe a backup/young left back to take over for BAE but that isn't anything we should be spending huge money on or time if it takes away from a striker or maybe even two strikers IMO.

Apparently Tim Vickery has said some positive stuff on Talksport about the Paulinho deal, I can't find anything on their website though.. Maybe not uploaded yet?

If anyone finds it would be appreciated!

He has impressed me anyway in the small number of matches I've watched him in. Looks very powerful, energetic, uses space well, get's into the box and can finish chances. His technique is very good also. I'd be delighted if we get him.

Meanwhile in a parallel (and all together calmer) thread.....

I heard what Vickery was saying a couple of weeks ago about how this guy was in his opinion one of the best prospects in S America and perfectly suited to the PL. I'll now try and find this recent interview also then. He obviously rates him. Please make it happen now.
