Give me a break... No one has been hating on him but a few of us don't see how he is valued at £17 million. It was a good header and he played a good ball over the top for Neymar who then created the chance with his tenacity. There was nothing spectacular about what he did today or anything he have done in the games I've seen him play. He looks like a decent player, I hope he proves me wrong and turns into a player that is worth £17 million.

I haven't heard any real noise from player or club to suggest that he won't be donning our colours next season.

While I usually tend to agree about the price of players, in today's market where British players are going for 20 million(Henderson, Rodwell, and so forth) and anyone to Man City or Chelsea are going for 30-40 million then 17 million doesn't look to bad for a player who in a semi-final set up the first goal and scored the second goal. Sure he wasn't world class but he was very good if you ask me.
He seems like a true box to box midfielder who will chip in with goals, have some nice passes now and again and play enough defense to not leave Sandro/Def. Midfielder out to dry. I think he gives us great options to have as he seems to be able to play in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 if need be. At the very least he raises our profile as a contender as he is in the starting 11 for Brazil and keeping out pretty good players do so. I think this is one case where our staff has said, you don't get many chances to buy really good young players and he is one of them, just buy him and fit him in with Sandro/Dembele and have AVB figure it out.
Do we still need a striker or maybe even two this summer? YES but we acquire talent when and where you can, and he is talented and should be able to sell on for a decent price even if he doesn't turn out to be world class.
Anyway, I know you are just trying to say he is good but not worth 17 million but hey we bought Bentley for 15-16 million and he was total shite, there is no way Paulinho isn't better than Bentley so try not to worry about the money so much and worry about the talent and fitting into the squad.

I think bar the obvious talent that boy has, is the fact he can fulfil different roles for the team - we've seen him play the deep lying midfielder, picking the ball up from the defence and giving it simply, to playing a more attacking role and joining in attacks, making late runs with also a nice knack for getting on the score sheet.
For us, he can take on Sandro's and Dembele's role if required and makes Huddlestone, Livermore and even Parker totally expendable - that is the beauty of having a Paulinho in our squad and why I personally believe he'll be a fantastically shrewd buy.
