I don't actually think Ibrahimovic has been that good. He's scored goals across all competitions, a few of them good individual efforts showing he hasn't lost his ability, but he's not offering a lot in general play and Man Utd are basically set up for him and rely on him to score goals.

Then why do it in April of the year?!? Surely if it's player of the year you review Jan-December and award it in January.
If it's player of the year, in which case 2016, then Ibra shouldn't be in the list at all as he only came along in August.
It's blatantly player of the season...

It blatantly isn't player of the season, the clue is in the name ffs. I know that's being a bit obvious, but I have heard a quite a few ex players(pundits) mention last season when talking about Kante and his chances this time round.

Hasn't he missed the most chances in the league or something?

Still think he'll get a few votes though - it's fellow pros that vote and the media will be hyping him up a bit too I reckon.

Where do defenders stand on getting nominated, because I really do think that Toby deserves a nomination tbh. Pretty much flawless, easy to argue he's the best central defender in Europe by quite a margin and for quite some time

They don't feature because they aren't glamorous. It's a meaningless award. Bunch of pros sucking each other off.

I love Toby, but I genuinely think Vertonghen has been better than him this season. Not that I think there's much in it between them, I just think Jan's performances fly under the radar somewhat.

Vertonghen has absolutely been our stand out defender this year.

Ibra has done REALLY well then to be nominated considering he only played in the league for the final 5 months of the year...

Totally agree. When Toby was injured, I was worried Jan's form would drop but he's been a warrior this year. That one slip vs Lukaku should not taint a near flawless campaign. I think Toby made a mistake vs Saints so it can happen even to mr perfect :p

Voting for the PFA player of the year closed 31st March 2017.

So although it is player of the year, you can see they are trying to bring it closer to the football season as they feel possibly can.

Maybe it just takes them too long to count votes from all 92 football clubs. I don't think the system is as yet electronic.

Why do we always have this argument every time the nominations come out lol, it's called player of the year, it's based on a year on year basis. The voting process is opened up in January and announced at the end of the season.
