My vote went to Romero, not just because of his individual performances but for the overall improvement to our whole defence when he plays.

He’s managed to bring a calmness to Dier (as he feels he doesn’t need to cover the space of two players) and he’s made a real change to the whole team unit.

Was saying last week that my new favourite thing is the sound of his crunching 50/50 tackles reverberating around the ground.

Hugo has been immense this year. Great saves almost no farts a rock will be so difficult to replace.

Agreed. I'd also add quite how difficult this year must have been for him.

We'll never know quite what he did, but, as captain, Hugo will have played a key role in helping the team work through the difficulties caused by Kane's shenanigans, supporting colleagues through Nuno's unique approach to man management, trying to build a collective spirit in what was a wholly dysfunctional set-up in the first part of the season and helping new team-mates to settle in what was a basket case of a club when they signed.

As keeper, he'll have been getting used to not one, but two new defensive systems. And all the while, he will have been considering his next career move, balancing what's good for him, for his family, for the team, yet not letting it affect his form in the way that other players in the last year of their contract have.

Consistently very good (Lloris) isn't normally enough to displace regularly excellent (Son) in my vote for Player of the Season but, given the context, it is this year.

I didn’t vote for Holberg cos I don’t know who he is.

I'd say the individual player of the season is Son, but the player who's made most difference to the team is Romero. Defensively we were an absolute shambles before he joined.

You must be talking about Dier. It all went shit when he was out. Not Romero

Probably talking about Dier when I said 'defensively we were a shambles before Romero joined'. Mostly the system, but Dier and Sanchez were often atrocious.

Dier. Absolutely made for the role he plays which showed whenever anyone else tried to play it.

So strange how he never fully acclimatised to the cb job in a 2 but in the middle of a 3 we've been transformed.

Obviously Romero has been outstanding but special mention for Ben who has been outstanding at lcb.

If we'd had proper WBs this season we'd have been up there and no one would have imagined that with dier in defence at the beginning of the year.

Kane and Son will gat the plaudits but our control and dynamism at the back gave us the platform and the key to that has been the form of Dier.

He has been incredible all season long, no question about it!

But so has Dier, and his absence was noticed much more than any brief baron spell Son had. In my opinion.

If Skipp hadn't got injured (yes I know my bias is no secret) I think he'd have been my choice.

But as I said, when we had no Dier, we had no defence really. The organisation had stopped, Romero was a different player. We were just worse without Dier!

To be fair, had Skipp not got injured, I think you could make a solid case for any of him, Romero, Dier, Son & even Lloris for POTY.

Probably just chatting more shit but at least I'm honest.

You’re not wrong that Dier has been good this year, completely agree and he’s surprised me with how well he’s done.

I do think though if you took son out of the team and you took Dier out of the team we would finish a lot lower without son compared with Dier.

Nobody can replace his goals, more than anyone in the league exc. pens, simply incredible.

Can only be Son or Dier imo. Let’s see what the last few games look like.

WD, what the fuck? These last couple of days I've been pretty unwell, but the quoted posts are just a sample of me agreeing with you about things.

I don't know if I'm comfortable with it  :ROFLMAO:

Can't really argue/disagree with any of that, JS. Although I know many will, and do disagree. I think we're lucky to have both Sonny & Dier. In fact, because I'm deluded & have an irrational positivity when it comes to things THFC. I think our core/spine, of Lloris, Dier, Romero, Bentancur, Skipp, Kane & Son, is really rather good. Complimenting them with a few smart additions to the WB/midfield options could really push us onwards, in my opinion.

Son without no question of a doubt!!!

Shout outs to Dier, Romero and Lloris though, very solid seasons.

Sanchez was fine when Romero was out with Dier in the middle. It went wrong as soon as Dier were out and Romero moved to the middle, Sanchez bad there as well. We lacked leadship and it as why our defense was all over the place in that period.

Romero has been class but only started playing regularly after 3/4 months with injuries and national duty nonsense.

Easily Eric Dier. Best player in the squad through our roughest patch of the season, kept us in the mix himself.

It's ludvig holberg, obviously!

One out of 20 odd spelt wrong after four pints whilst typing out names on my phone - I'll have gladly taken that tbh.

It's that time of the year again according to my email inbox. Tough one this season as no-one has really been on it all season long. I suppose I'll ignore Harry's antics early on and vote for him. Sonny also been incredible recently but had a few too many dips in form to win my vote.

Mods, couldn't see this anywhere else. Please delete if it's a duplicate.
Beats me why people have to neg rep a post like this instead of simply disagreeing with it (neutral rep).
