Im not surprised and actually expect him to leave at the end of this season. The club need to be scouting for his replacement and sign him up in January.

Im surprised we let players get down to 2 yrs on their contracts... It just weakens us from a negotiation/selling perspective.

I would really like us to have the foresight to start scouting replacements much earlier. Looking at how James Maddison has fitted in at Leicester i cant help but think we missed a trick there.

I’d love to know the reason for not paying him the same as Kane. He’s equally as important and we can’t afford the money we’d need to replace him.

Shooting ourselves in the foot again, nothing is ever easy with us at the moment. We’re a bad PR magnet.

What do you think we did with Sanchez? I'm sure the club scout for players to bring in should a player move on etc. I suspect Grealish was earmarked for that exact reason

I think Sanchez was a substitute for Dier who had indicated he wished to focus on the cdm position... But yes that type of a signing.

If Eriksen leaves next season we need his replacement signed up early. We don't want his replacement coming in at an inflated fee as a result of what Eriksen will go for.

Really the club need to be looking for either a Toby or Jan replacement long term, a Dembele replacement, somone to fill in on the LWF area should Son have to do military service & someone for Eriksen should he not put pen to paper by around November time. That's a lot of investments for top quality talent that needs to be made within the next 12 months. Something along the lines of De Ligt, De Jong, Bailey & maybe a young creative player from either Real or Barca in exchange for Eriksen along with the money will set us up well. If only

Agree with all of that assessment. Except I'd like to see Jan & Toby retire with us. That would give us money to spend in the other areas that you've mentioned and continue to develop Foyth and CCV.

Strange how I've come to accept that Eriksen will leave.

This happened last time...

Yeah I’ve been saying the same since the summer and that’s a new article from his agent. 1. Link player with other teams 2. Leak there’s a stalemate as talks have been on going for a while 3. I suspect will be player signing a new contract. It’s what happened last time with his agent.

Heres an an article from before he signed the last one with a couple of relevant paragraphs

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...nham-offer-substantial-pay-rise-a3331976.html

He has attracted interest from both Juventus and Paris St Germain in the last 12 months but has chosen to extend his stay at White Hart Lane.

The length of time taken by the talks caused some at Tottenham to fear Eriksen would reach next summer with only one year remaining on his deal, making him an attractive proposition to potential suitors.

We are like all clubs players are not for sale unless they make it clear they want to go as like sherringham;Berbatov;carrick;Bale we would have kept them all but they made it clear they wanted out .
I say if Erricson wants out then get rid sooner rather than later and lets move on ;who knows we may be better off because if we get £100 million for him we could be in the market for Pulisic or two other £50million players as always whenever we have sold a top player we have somehow managed to carry on on an upward spiral

If we don't announce a new contract by January you have to assume he's intending to leave. He'll only have 18 months and his transfer fee will begin to drop and his wage value will sky rocket.

Maybe from a footballing perspective, but unfortunately its a business decision at the end of the day.
Kane's 'brand' will bring much more money into the club, England captain, yadi yada...and this is what the club will look at when deciding a players worth, not just what they do on the pitch.

@Jcass3 Interested to know what part of that you disagree with buddy, don't be shy, it's a forum after all.

He's most likely thinking at 26 he's running out of time to win a title. He's not a Spurs fan and he's seen little ambition this summer to suggest we think we can take on City.
Can't really blame him, I don't think it's about salary, it's about negotiating an exit on his terms, not Levy's drawn out extortionate terms.

More players will do it too as they'll not want to he held ransom for fees no one will pay.

All I can say is I have been attending football at spurs since 1951 and I am now at 75 years of age at a crossroads and that is do I carry on with football or do I wash my hands of it.
Just as the clubs had too much power over the players we are now with the players having too much power over the clubs.
The tail wagging the dog is something I am not into .
I am sick to death of players who want want and still want ;all this talk of winning trophies is a smoke screen for "I want more cash"
I must say I applaud the likes of Zaha;Vardy;who choose to stay with clubs over moving to bigger clubs for more cash and more chance of winning something.
Cynics will say its because they will play every week ;well I say its a love for club and loyalty something sadly missing from todays football. Will there ever be players that stay with one club for the duration I doubt it.
To me the day Abramovitch started paying over the odds for success was the beginning of the end and thus you end up with a country yes a COUNTRY backing Man City with never ending cash; add to them PSG and Juventus who also have owners willing to throw any amount of cash at a problem to find a solution and there is no accountability because UEFA and FIFA are all about money and integrity can F off.
So however misguided I may be I sell sell Erricson for maybe £100 and buy two £50 players you never know we might be better off and you might even get someone who actually wants to play for Spurs and not be wanting to hold the club by the throat '
Well we can all dream

While I understand and agree with a lot of the general sentiment, I think aiming it in Eriksen's direction is a bit misguided to say the least. If his main motivation was money he could have left us years ago to earn far more at another club, it's not like he would have lacked suitors. He's never struck me as someone who is all about the money and as far as I can see all this is coming from a Daily Mail article anyway which is hardly the most reliable source.

He’s off next summer, IMO

If, as per some earlier comments, the club think they could replace Eriksen with Grealish, they are grossly mistaken. Grealish isn't near the level Eriksen was when he joined us, let alone now. If he does leave, which would be shit, this is one time we need to properly replace a player, whatever the cost.

I think you’ll find we wont be spending anywhere near the requires amount to replace Eriksen.

It’s actually slightly ridiculous to say Kane or Eriksen are irreplaceable. City came 25 pts ahead of us without them and didn’t spend more than £50-60m on a single player. So however distasteful it may feel, as long as you’re prepared to spend reasonably and know what you’re doing any player is replaceable as Liverpool have shown with coutinho.

I'm sure people said the same about losing Modric and bringing in Eriksen. Eriksen has had plenty of time to develop into the player he is today.
