Romas president James Pallotta has said 'everyone is for sale", how this relates to Lamela i am not sure and how this will effect his price is anyones guess but one would think that if we want him that we would have a strong chance. My reasoning being that Baldini will know better then anyone how much Roma are likely to value him at and he will know how much money we have to play with so if he thinks its a real possibility then why wouldn't it be exactly that... a real possibility. It is interesting as Lamela shares so many of Bales traites and one big concern would be the fact that both are left footed and often play cutting in from the right, but in response to that, essentially we would get the best of both worlds as one can play the more atypical winger whilst the other the inside forward and obviously they could rotate. I also think Lamela is more of a playmaker then Bale.... essentially if we really are looking into it i would be very, very happy and would love to see Bale and Lamela line up together.

If spursvert thinks Lamela would cost less than Bernard to get he's delusional.

Lamela is one of Roma's highly rated players. Context Roma are about to sell Marcos another highly rated player for around €30m and he just got the club last year. To get a decent return on Lamela bids would have to start at around £25m. Baldini would know this because he friggin signed him! I personally think in a year or two he could sell for £40m-ish to Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG etc. Unless Roma can get their sh-t together and be title contenders again. Given his personality and his peers attitutde I doubt he'd leave Roma for any club besides Madrid or Barca right now.
I am interested in why you think Lamela would cost more than Bernard. They are both around the same age, they are both South American, Bernard has a contract until 2017 and Lamela has one until 2016. Is it because Lamela has spent 2 seasons at Roma and Bernard hasn't played in Europe? I am genuinely interested.

I think also it wasn't Baldini that signed Lamela it was the other fella Sabatini (Not sure of his name but it is earlier on the thread).

How much did Roma pay for Lamela, about 12-13mil? They'd want a good return on that surely?

why would Roma sell a player for less then they paid for him, do they just like Spurs for some reason. Lamela is one of the best young players in the world, he's even on FIFA's list of the 5 best young players of the world. Like I said roma just signed Marcos and his rumored fee is €35m (£30m) to PSG. As far as potential Lamela is on the same level as Marcos and he's more accomplished, last season 15 goals and 5 assist as a 20/21 year old. Realistically bids would start at £25m, I personally think the club would budge for anything less than £35m.

Never going to happen.

If we sign Benteke that is likely to be the last 'big' deal we do and even if Lamela is available I suspect he'd be a target for clubs much bigger than us.

hence why he might be plan A, but in all likelihood we will sign B C or D

I never said that Roma would sell him for less than they paid for him. Roma paid about €18m (£15-16m).
I also don't doubt he is on FIFA best young players of the world list (whatever that is).
I actually think he looks a pretty decent player (as does Bernard).

Interesting you use the Marcos/PSG transfer. Didn't Citeh buy Fernandinho for £28m (28 yr old) and we pay £17m for Paulinho (23 yr old). Just saying :)

Nonetheless I think both players are very good.

I've never seen Lamela play. What's he like? Any current players that he can be compared to?

Well Roma do seem to be going through a big change phase, they are linked to Diega Costa today and also supposedly want Gervinho (fvck knows why) then with the likes of Strootman, the Croatian lad and Maicon and Di Mariano there is certainly plenty going on

Just did a bit of Googling and have to say I really like the look of this guy. Looks perfect for the wing-forward role we seem to be after and looks like he has more physicality than Bernard.

Let's hope we are seriously interested and the stuff about being prepared to open the cheque book is true. Hopefully Baldini's links will help.

This guy and a striker (Benteke?) and I'll be over the moon happy with our summer business.

Definitely has a bit more presence about him than Bernard.

I haven't see too much of him, but as long as he's hungry to chase down balls, improve his overall game etc, then there's no limit to how good he can be.

It'll be like having Bale and C.Ronaldo in the same team. Possibly making runs off Benteke! :dead:

I just don't believe it. Off on holiday on Friday for just over a week, and although I expect (hope) to see Benteke, I don't anticipate seeing any other big name wide forwards. Chadli or Ince or someone of that sort of expenditure maybe, but Lamela? Sorry but no.

Lamela Bale and Benteke would be a fearsome front three. Lamela is a class act but as others have said, it simply wont happen, Roma will want waaaay too much dough as he's their star player.

Lamela - If Bale went for a stupid fee to Madrid then yes, I could see it happening. He would be a lot more expensive than Bernard...lots lots more
