From Spurvert (who gives me good info)

Lamela is plan A for wideforward
Baldini loves him
AVB wants him

There is an acceptance this be very difficult to pull off but he is wanted

Very expensive, although you could see why we'd drop interest in Bernard for this guy.

Out on a limb here.

Spurvert 'resurrecting' the Lamela link is highly suspect IMO
Hasn't been mentioned in weeks and weeks then Jason Burt gets asked a question about him & it gets discussed, hey presto, next morning 'i'm hearing about Lamela'

BTW LAMELA NOT COMING

Would he cost around the same as Bernard, say 20-25mil? Cant see it happening.

Looks like its out of Lamela, Bernard, Chadli (although app weve ended interest in Bernard)- I reckon it will be Chadli all day long, he is around the same age and will cost a third of the price of the other 2.

Not that this has any bearing on anything but BAE and Lamela have the same agent/agency!

So if we are prepared to pay big money on Benteke why couldn't we instead spend big money on Lamela?
Given that he plays wide right/left, seems like he would be a better fit in a 4-3-3 than Big Benteke!

Agree. It's promising to have ambition, but part of me thinks we should go straight for Chadli and crack on with things, rather than hang it out and miss out altogether.

to be fair to Spurvert he told me about our interest in Lamela weeks ago on a DM but was not going public with it then. Perhaps he was prepared to now if others were discussing it

I know it won't happen but the below would make us the most competitive we've ever been.

Benteke
Lamela Bale
Dembele Paulinho
Sandro

Unless Baldini's links with Roma give us an advantage in some way but im really clutching at straws.

If spursvert thinks Lamela would cost less than Bernard to get he's delusional.

Lamela is one of Roma's highly rated players. Context Roma are about to sell Marcos another highly rated player for around €30m and he just got the club last year. To get a decent return on Lamela bids would have to start at around £25m. Baldini would know this because he friggin signed him! I personally think in a year or two he could sell for £40m-ish to Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG etc. Unless Roma can get their sh-t together and be title contenders again. Given his personality and his peers attitutde I doubt he'd leave Roma for any club besides Madrid or Barca right now.

If Roma paid £20m for him then he's going to cost £30m minimum. Plus it would be pretty stupid for Roma to sell their best player in possibly Totti's final season.

NEVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

If Baldini signed him he might know all about his contract and therefore he will be aware of the £1m buy out clause that Lamela has if a chairman turns up to negotiations wearing a Little Bo Peep costume and singing 'Im a little Teapot'

In you go Levy :sneaky:
