Wasn't there a Roma supporter lurking around who categorically wrote off Lamela being sold. I know it's just a fan saying it, but he seemed adamant that he wouldn't be following Baldini to Spurs.

There was, he stated because Sabatini is now overseeing all decisions at Roma and was a key part of getting Lamela into Roma in the first place that Lamela wouldn't be allowed to leave.

Might not have much bearing if the money laundering and tax evasion investigations go "our" way.

There was - it was a good honest post - worth a read - only a few pages back.

Hey guys, roma fan here. I've been reading this forum and wanted to offer you guys some clarification on Roma's signing of Lamela.

Romas sporting director is Walter Sabatini, has been since 2011 prior to Baldini's arrival. He is highly rated in Italy and most of Europe as a Sports director and particularly a top talent scout as demonstrated whilst as Palermo ( Pastore, ilicic, harnandez, etc).

It was infact him who purchased, scouted and ultimately convinced Lamela to join Roma. He has a great knowledge if SA. Since his arrival Roma has purchased a number of top talents in Lamela, Marquinhos, Lopez, Pjanic and dodo. Sabatini had continually supported Lamela despite his inconsistent first season, he at one stage gambled his career in the media by stating that if Lamela didnt become a superstar, he would fail as a sports director.

Baldini's role was, being a Romanista to install a new direction, a new type of football and also to act as the mediator between the American Mamagement and the Roma fan base. His job was not signings but rather philosophy, staff management, media handling.

As a person who oozes class in his approach and being well respected figure, I must say that ultimately he failed Roma and her fans (the failure to select the correct coaches). He jumped ship when we needed him the most, and this will indeed be a huge failure on otherwise a great career. Despite this Roma fans have utmost respect and indeed love for the man, he will be remembered for his work in getting roma her 3rd Serie A trophy in 2001. I hope him all the best in taking spurs to the top of the premier league. Good luck Baldini and Spurs.

Finally i want to apologise for intruding your forum. I just wanted to offer Tottenham fans clarification around who actually bought Lamela to Roma. However given that Sabatini is now in charge of all things at Roma, Lamela will not be moving to spurs or anyone this summer unless a crazy Pastore-like sum is received.

And here it is - there, that wasn't too difficult to find!

I can't get excited about the Lamela link - we've only heard he's on a list somewhere, and the paper link to em seems a lazy Baldini one.

Whether we get him or not is not so important (although it would be balls to the wall amayzing if we did) its more his presence on this list that is. It good to know the club is looking at the right type of player as, for me, bringing in a player like Lamela or Bernard is just as important as brining in a striker. Beyond that, yes he would cost a bomb, no Levy prob won't go for him but yes he would be a wise replacment for Bale... So IF they are considering it, and yes it is a very big IF, then it would make sense to bring him in now rather then later when his stock will no doubt raise further and we can benefit from having the most awsome front three. It's all vague hypotheticals but that's why we all love tranfer windows so much! Nothing better then hypothesising about great players we are tentativly linked to playing for Spurs.

I'm not, it's just a topic of conversation. And I am sure there is a list, whether its the one ITKs have been alluding to or not, or if they really have seen it or not doesn't stop it existing. I am sure every club rights up a list come window time.

Not sold on Lamela being right for us, much like i'm not sold on Paulinho being the right fit either. Lamela is a little too like Bale, more direct than crafty. I'd prefer us to bring in a player who is a bit of a wildcard for when we are struggling to break teams down, a player who can beat a man with an outrageous bit of skill and can unlock defences with passes.
You dont get more direct than Messi with his sights on goal, so that's not such a bad thing.

We're signing messi?

Barca play a very possession based game but still have a combination of directness and guile (iniesta, xavi etc.) The German clubs have taken the power and pace game to a new level but they still have skillful players and quality passing (ribery, javi martinez et al for bayern; players like gotze at dortmund). What I was suggesting is that right now our balance is a little off, we have direct players with power and pace throughout our team but are maybe lacking in some subtlety that might take us to another level. Paulinho and lamela whilst being excellent players are both a little more direct than creative.

I agree. That is why we need to sign a player like Bernard or a Mata/Silva type winger. We have alot of pace and power but a lack of brains and guile.
