You did'nt watch him for last season for us then? FFS I despair

Of course I did. But I’m sure most would say they are slightly surprised by his level of performance. I doubt even his most fervent supporters would have expected him to be 3rd only to de Bruyne and neymar in key passes.

Funny thing is actually believe KWP will ultimately be better than walker and Trippier. He has walker pace and Trippier technique.

I actually backed him to get the most assists for England...which he probably hasn't, but you get the point.

Yeah I could see that as a reasonable shout especially being on set pieces. But he’d probably have been 100/1 or more to be top 3 for key passes in the whole tournament.

This was before I even knew about him being on set pieces.

He's always creating chances.

There’s 12 pages of discussion on Trippier since the World Cup started. So people are obviously reassessing their opinion on him or they’d be no discussion at all. Dele’s thread isn’t even on the front page, because basically he’s done nothing to change anyone’s opinion on him except score a typical dele goal. Dier now has the majority saying he is a CB. I just have no idea why people can’t accept that a World Cup can be career changing in how a player is viewed. If it didn’t you wouldn’t have 12 fresh pages discussing Trippier. He’s now a player many top clubs would consider buying that they didn’t before. I’ve no idea how anyone could doubt that.

Why are we obviously reassessing?

He is currently performing very well at a World Cup. Would be extremely weird if we weren’t discussing him.

Who is reassessing their opinion of him, do you know how threads work? People discuss topics in them and Trippier just happens to be a hot topic as he's playing well, if you read some of the posts in here there's people who still don't rate him despite his good form.

What you're probably you're trying to is trying to vindicate your thread about buying players due to good form at the World Cup, why? Your thread was about taking punts on 'complete unknowns' which doesn't have anything to do with how a player is viewed at a World Cup, try not to move those goalposts too much yeah.

I’m just not quite sure how you can completely dismiss a player based on his World Cup appearances. Yet on the other hand sit here pontificating about Trippier based on how he is performing at the World Cup. You can’t have your cake and eat it. Either World Cup performances are relevant or they aren’t.

Lol just cause you can’t win an argument you call it straw man. Dude you need to chill a bit, stop being so aggressive and confrontational it’s only a football forum. If you don’t agree with my opinion then fine. But no need to constantly try to belittle me.

Sigh...I purposely don't respond to your post, you've tried to bait me and I'm the one that wants an argument and getting aggressive, cool.

My last post was a massive clue that I'm not even trying engage in a debate with you seeing as you have a tendency to move the goalposts of your argument time and time again, it's tiresome - I don't even think you even realise you're doing it.

Be a good idea to read the OP of your thread and compare it to your latest comments on this subject, you'd probably realise where you're going wrong.

Isn’t this more a case of Trippier playing well in football matches? These player threads always burst into life when the players concerned have good or bad games, in this case they are happening for England because that’s the only games happening.

No one is saying that World/Euro Cup performances dont count for anything, have no influence on the perception or on careers etc, we all know that it can and does.

All I (And others) said to you was, it’s stupid to form solid opinions (especially in terms of recruitment) on a handful (somewhere between 3-6) of games played in very unique circumstances - international tournaments - that are nothing like evaluating players in normal league games over much longer control periods like whole seasons.

Trippier is doing well for England but for us you’d need perhaps to play wing backs and someone pacy on right of back three to get best out of if as Southgate has done putting Walker behind him.

You could play Sanchez there as Poch had done earlier in season but then a shame perhaps might not be able to keep Alderweireld as ideally he could then have played in middle of the back three (I’d see Dier as more right sided but perhaps he could play the central role?).

As good as Trippier has been I still would like to see KWP given more opportunity as feel he would be the better long-team option.

And, we're off: Man Utd transfer news: Red Devils favourites to sign Tottenham star Kieran Trippier

Nothing to story other than: "And the bookies reckon Trippier is likely to join United this summer, with the Red Devils the 5/2 favourites to sign the 27-year-old."
Personally I think it would benefit us as we could easily get GBP 75K+ in the coffers, he being the WC winning England first choice right back! Then make Kyle Walker-Peters our number one, who I know will surpass Trippier as England's number one! (y)

Always liked Trippier, his confidence will be sky high when he comes back to us, it will be interesting to see if Poch goes back to WBs this season.

I prefer Sanchez as the central defender and that's where he played when we went to a back 3. Either Toby or Dier do well in the right centre back position and both play good diagonal balls so either will do well in that formation. Sanchez pace means he can cover either fullback if he plays central.

I definitely see the benefit of going with wingbacks and playing Son/another central off Kane like Sterling does for England. I would not be surprised to see a similar formation to England next season.
