What's new

Players should be proud of themselves for the heart they showed tonight

Through Naugton, Dembele and Ade were appalling. Ade's pen a joke. The rest really played well and battled to the end.
Agree. Dembele had the blinkers on. Naughton is brain dead and let the winger in behind way too often. Adebayor had some good moments but looks like he's in 3rd gear. Awesome team effort though. Walker had an exceptional second half. Holtby and Sig were sharp. Dempsey had a great game also

To be fair we done well to get back to 2-2 and hold it to a draw and to pens. FC Basel are a very good side and technically so much better than us. Their movement is better they actually keep the ball really really well, they are well organised and there players take very good penaltys. We done well against a very good side here.

We have lost if i am not mistaken 7 successive pen shootout

Add that to 6 sucessive FA cup semi final

The mentality of this club really need to be addressed

And like i pointed out earlier....we are still leaking goals....2 more again tonite

Seems like the manager is incapable addressing this issue

I couldn't help notice that Dempsey's kit was brown on 90mins, Ade's was pristine white. That said, I think we should have tried to get the ball in the box more often. Adebayor and Dempsey had the beating of their centre halves in the air.

All said and done, tremendously proud of the team.

Have to admire the effort, pity about the result though.I hope this kind of effort can be brought into the remaining PL games.

Holtby came of age in a Spurs shirt tonight, fought for every ball and had the heart of a lion. Defensive/holding midfielder should be his position from now on, releasing Dembele to play further forward - at times Moussa looked a bit of a liability playing a deeper role.

Well done also to Tommy Carroll tonight, he provided energy, calmness and quality on the ball just when we needed it.

And fair play to AVB for turning out strong teams throughout the competition. It might have been nail-biting stuff at times for us of Spurs, but we provided edge-of-the-seat entertainment on a Thursday night for the neutral, and he will have learnt so much more about individual players, and the squad as a whole, than if he'd played weaker teams and gone out early.

We did great to hang on with 10men for the whole of extra time. All you haters seem to have forgotten that this team turned over united and are a good team!

Massive effort from Dawson. I thought walker run his arse off! Carroll is looking a talent.

The only player I can critcise is Adebayor. His penalty summed his attitude up.

We need to regroup and hope our injured return! We really need a result against City!

Totally agree, players worked their socks off today and just couldn't get the movement going in the final third. Ade actually did pretty well in terms of link up and effort (mostly) but he just seems to have lost any idea of how to play as a centre forward, he drifts a lot and does well but ultimate it leaves us unbalanced in the final third and Dempsey and Sigurdsson can't make up the gaps.

No shame to lose to Basle they have beaten top sides before and look to be a very good side. Proud of the lads hope we can use this to push us on to a top 4 finish.

Great OP. Seems quite weird right now to have a positive non-douche thread. The players must deserve a big pat on the back for the effort. We were beaten by a better team and did well, IMO, to get to pens in the first place.

Let's hope they have a fews days off and can bring a positive focus for our push to the CL. COYS

I think Jan will score vs City. He's a born winner... No doubt he will be so angry with himself he will want to make up for it big time.

Indeed. Technically we are shocking really.

I agree in part, however the persistent rain made the surface really greasy and most of the time the ball was flying off the surface - I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt tonight.

However, what really irks me (and it wasn't just tonight and it ain't just Spurs) is the lack of support to the player on the ball.
The times we have a player on the ball and he's either tight to the touchline or surrounded by two or three of the opposition with no out-ball opportunity, usually because team-mates either can't be arsed to run into space or the formation is too rigid to allow players to move into position to provide an out-ball.

I see it in match after match, week after week and I can never understand why players/coaches/managers let it happen.

A club in the top 4 of the "best " league in the world should be knocking out the likes of basle in the europa league imo, disregarding there nice run in the CL. Feel this Europa run has cost us the three points v Fulham and possibly a point at anfield .

I do think sadly I'm going to finally admit it the Europa isn't worth our time of day if it means playing Sundays and gruelling tripd

Basel were there for the taking, some of the sloppiest play ive seen in a while, adebayor couldnt hold play up for shit, dembele was like a headless chicken. Typical result when it really matters.

Some should.

Dempsey, Adebayor, Friedel, Huddlestone. Never want to see in Spurs shirt again.

What the fuck is tom doing taking first pen? When have we ever seen him score?
He clearly wants to cut that hair now......

Don't want to Harry-bash - as I love what he did for us....

But this was so much more enjoyable than watching the youth team getting knocked out in the early stages.

Suspect it's given our co-efficient a bit of a boost - if we do get back in the CL that'll help us....
