Players should be proud of themselves for the heart they showed tonight

I thought that from the moment Verts was sent off the players did themselves proud. Brilliant defending and proper effort considering we were down to 10 men, away from home and this late in the season.

We didn't play well tonight but I don't think effort was where we were lacking.
I disagree with that last sentence. We played well enough I think given the situation and our 4-3-3 formation looked good. We were very comfortable and both goals were down to errors: Dembele losing the ball, Naughton thinking he's a winger and not being in his position and Friedel letting the ball go through him; and the poor defending at the near post coupled with Friedel's pathetic save.

We had no chance in penalties. Did anyone think Friedel would ever save a penalty? I'm surprised he made it up after every dive. We can't be saying we want to win the competition and then playing him in goal. He's so obviously inferior to Lloris. I support Tottenham not Brad Friedel's feelings.

Dawson was immense, Carroll impressed me

Dembele though has been poor recently and needs to step up for the final league games

Siggy, Holtby, Dawson, Walker, Naughton, parker all put a shift in. Rest can fook off

What about Adebayor?

In extra time he was out numbered by two centre backs whilst the other nine players sat deep, he didn't put a shift in too?

There's a line in the Anchorman trailer that sums up silly stuff like this.

"Seriously, you sound like an insane person."

Agree about Fridel but Huddlestone'd pen and ADE 's were so poor they are the ones who cost us in the end. Do we not practice them? Why the hell did Hudd go first? I knew straight away he would miss.

Well yes that is a very good point and I can see what you are saying through your very cleverly constructed argument and intelligence.

But I can't help but feel that...despite your clear brilliance when it comes to intricate discussion...that your point is very very...very stupid.

i somehow agree.

but on the other hand I am so close to just packing it in and just giving up on this fecking club. we always seem to bottle it in spectacular fashion. it's killing me slowly but surely.

it's like it's just not meant to be for us...

I need to finish this bottle of scotch now .... :(

I have decided to do this at the end of the season. Wife is six months pregnant and have decided I spend too much time on football and it takes up too much of my emotion and energy. Going to be be hard to avoid football but I'm honestly addicted to the sport and need to get away from it!

Well I'm proud of them. Been a very memorable European campaign, and plenty of positives to take into the rest of the season.

Why does everyone think Dawson played well? Yes he gave it his all and chucked himself into shots and made some good blocks but he is not good enough as a defender and was outsmarted in so many ways. We need a CB

I thought we played well (apart from Ade), but can't help but think this could go either way, inspire us to finish 4th (or higher) or result in our confidence being in tatters and we bottle it again!

Can't help but think it will be the latter!

I agree, but maybe it's becuase we have never had owners who genuinely want the club to succeed on the pitch and not just financially, Levy/ENIC just seem like all the previous encumbents "Just get one big name and that will keep the morons on the terraces happy"!!! :mad:

We were in almost total control of that game until Jan got sent off.

Huddlestone and Carroll did brilliantly when they came on but when Thudd had to move into defence that control of the game was lost.

Extra time was backs to the wall stuff and we never looked like scoring. There was some real heart shown though and they can be proud of the effort they put in.

Pens are pens. It's a shit way of deciding a match, but that's just how it goes.

What pleases me the most is that a number of players have stepped up in the last couple of games, and that is positive for the run-in. Especially now that we have a 10 day break to regroup and get ready for Man City.

Lots of positives. COYS!

Kipling said it best.
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
I am proud of the team this evening, yes we went out but we gave it our all!
The pain of defeat is a powerful motivator and we can use this to cement our place in the Champions League next season!

His kit was brown by the end of the night. Dawson is a real pro.
Sorry but what did people think would happen? That he'd say fuck off and stop playing? He did well. I wouldn't say it was a hero's performance. He contributed significantly to the turning point of the match, Vertonghen's red card.

Would like to say that Basel's support over the 2 games was excellent and their fans deserve their joyous moment, really helped their team!
